Lets have a discussion about the history of corruption in the two parties. We all know it exist on both sides but how do the parties react when one of thiier own succumbs to thier dark side.Ill reserve specific instances for the debate but I will assert that democrats ALWAYS point the finger at "vast right wing conspiracies" and 'the politics of personal destruction" and take no blame and REFUSE to resign, while republicans have a FAR BETTER record of purging bad apples from thier party.

Following along your line of thought, two names come to mind; Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank.

I think they're equally corrupt.

There's no standard of measure to determine "more" corrupt than the other.

The number of cases and resulting jail time would be a good start though. How about posting ALL of them and then concluding for us?

They both definetly have their fair share of problems. In the last eight years the republicans are definetly ahead in the corruption score.

Both have proven corrupt, the real fun is when we see them trying to get one up on the other. I do not like it when us under dogs are put in the middle of their game. Take the most recent events, Jesse Jackson, Jr. and Obama's two cents in that case. I guess Obama is getting back for the statement that Jesse made, by helping hang his "Jr.'s" balls. Now if Jesse would jump up and force the issue of Obama's birth certificate with all his money. They did say at this point that Illinois is one of the more corrupt states, so if Obama was senator there, maybe he never had to prove his citizenship, maybe he just bought his position too.

I cant disagree with any of the comments so far but Dogj hit on the point Im trying to make.Ted kennedy,Barney Frank,Chris Dodd,Nancy Pelosi,Charlie Rangle,Bill And Hillary Clinton.

What do all these names have in common?

Could you go back in political history and have as long a list of republicans? YES!!!!!

The difference is these democrats STILL HOLD OFFICE!!!!!!!!!!The party lacks the integrity to force these people to resign. The individuals lack the integrity to know when to be contrite.

Now the democrtas should try to name the republicans that have been embroiled in an ugly scandle BUT STILL HOLD(or held)OFFICE!

Well, in fairness, a couple of months ago we could have mentioned:
Larry Craig
Ted Stevenson

True:There were widespread calls for Criag to resign,he did, then he resinded his resignation. My theory hold true on Craig. I cant honestly say I heard many/any calls for stevenson to resign so Ill concede. But the tally is ONE republican to how many democrats?LOL

Stevens was ask to give up his seat and not run again but he refused. When you look at the two parties right now, you have the ones listed and then you have the ones being investigated now and you have the ones who are protected and the facts hidden. So when it comes down to it you have a group of people in office you would not hire to work mowing your yard if you knew all the facts about them.

BLAGOJEVICH:
Last night his media spokesperson announced that Blagojevich would not resign, and that it would be business as usual for the Govenor.

WHAT? "Business as usual"? Isn't that what got him in trouble?

Either way, what's the point? The whole system of American politics is corrupt. We are enfranchised to vote - period. After we vote the politicians do as they wish. A good case in point is the now infamous "bailout". The American people were overwhelmingly against it and the politicians voted for it anyway. Corruption may have more limits in one party than in the other but it really doesn't matter because we no longer own our country no matter who is in office. It will take way more than a ballot to change things.

Point taken jstol! I agree.Ya know its hard to defend republicans anymore-they have truly lost thier way on policy. They have moved left and the democrats have fallen off the left side of the world. So here we are stuck with HUGE corrupt government. It grows everyday and its partially our fault.Look at the debates prior to the election-Most people on here dont have a freakin clue! The political ignorance of the public is appaling. No wonder these guys do as they wish-they know most are watching American Idol or medicated with anti-depressants,alchohol,weed or worse! They just dont pay attention! We're definately swirling around the drain! Thanks liberalism, thanks apathy, thanks GW Bush and your liberal economic policies, thanks Barney Frank and your financial ignorance and thanks to the American public that votes for folks because they have a "D" behind thier name "because my daddy was a democrat"! Sorry,I got off on a rant there.

politics is by its very nature corrupt. The ability of one person to garner the support and vote of the majority of citizens breeds the need for corruption.

Every politician makes promises and claims. Every politician examines the cause and effect of every issue. There isn't a governor in America who has ever made an appointment of a senate seat that hasn't considered what Blagojevich did. They just werent as stupid about it.

Tell me, do you really think that Jean Carnahan a mere 60 days after burying her husband and son, with no political or leadership experience was the best person for the job of US Senator in 2000? or was the appointment made because it made a good story and democrats thought it would win them a republican seat in the next election.

If you do not consider options like Blagojevich did then you won't be a very good politican. But then again if you are an idiot and a scumbag like him you wont last long either.

Not yet, but are catching up quickly. Some do it as the Ill. Gov. evidently tried, blatantly, others do through legislation that favor them and their families, somewhat like Missouri ethanol legislation.
As a dumb ol Missouri boy I have often wondered why a person would spend hundreds of thousands even millions of their own money plus money of their friends for a government job that pays barely more than the top Civil Service Employees. Gollee, what could it be?

On the evening of June 16, 1972, a security guard at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., discovered a piece of tape on the lock of the door that led to the National Democratic Headquarters.
Instead of being honest with the American public and taking his advisors to task, Richard Nixon immediately became embroiled in a cover-up that would slowly unravel over the next two years—leading to Nixon's resignation in August 1974.

Yes it happens on both sides. Republican is however a synonymn for corupt.

January 23, 2007: Republican radio personality Scott Eller Cortelyou of Denver arrested on suspicion of using the Internet to lure a child into a sexual relationship

January 29, 2007: Republican former Jefferson County, Colorado, Treasurer Mark Paschall indicted on two felony charges "in connection with an allegation that Paschall solicited a kickback from a bonus he awarded one of his employees"

January 31, 2007: Republican Congressman Gary Miller is named by Republicans as ranking member of oversight subcommittee of House Financial Services Committee despite the FBI's investigation into his land deals

February 14, 2007: Major Republican fundraiser Brent Wilkes and former CIA executive director Kyle "Dusty" Foggo are indicted by a grandy jury for corrupting CIA contracts
