TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- A state senator switched parties Thursday, four months after Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and a legislative leader helped engineer his defeat in this year's Democratic primary.
Sen. Mark Gilstrap, of Kansas City, said he is breaking his family's 160-year-old ties to the Democratic Party because it developed a "radical liberal tilt and intolerance of dissent."

It's funny what a difference a year makes. Last year, MU fans, like myself, would be absolutely giddy about heading to the Big 12 Championship with the possibility of only two losses.
We'd be loving the idea that our Tigers could beat those Jayhawks in front of a packed crowd at Arrowhead.
Ahhhh - but last year it was #1 vs. #2, center stage, primetime, and College GameDay was in town. There was the chance for a National Championship hanging in the balance. You couldn't escape the excitement.
And, this year, there's no chance either team will head to the Biggest Game of Them All. There's no primetime, no ESPN hotshots in town.
So, I want to make sure Tiger fans don't get complacent. GROWL! This is a great season and it will be even better with a whoppin' of those 'Hawks. So, Go Tigers!
