A woman gave the police a possible tip on the missing woman, however the police only took a helicopter over the site that is heavily wooded.  Nothing was found, so they stop.  Why aren't they taking a dog trained in finding victims through the woods?  Another unsolved crime?

Making rash judgments on a blog doesn’t solve the problem either. Think the police didn’t do an adequate search? Get a group together and go search the area yourself. Perhaps you can find something and get your name on the news.

Jordan, we as citizens should not have to do the police' job for them. An honest day's pay for an honest day's work. If the police won't do their job, then I don't see why they are getting paid.

Just because the news reported a helicopter fly-over doesn't mean its true. I'd bet police accuracy far excedes media accuracy and they get paid.

Jordan, being on the DumbA-s TV is not my style nor my deepest desire I can assure you, thanks.
I would say with 126 homicides in KCMO with none resolved shows a record that needs improvement.
Maybe I should have my relative apply for a job here in KC, forensics is their speciality.

Vision, if you’d check today’s news you would have seen that the police did use a K-9 to conduct a search. Helicopters, particularly in the winter when all the leaves are off the tress, are a useful tool in looking for a dumped body or freshly dug grave. The police don’t tell the media everything they do or plan on doing. I’m quite sure there are many things going on in this investigation that the media will never know about, and don’t have a need to know about. I question your comment “A 126 homicides in KCMO with none resolved. . .” Are you suggesting that of all the homicides committed last year not a single one has been solved? How interesting.

Perhaps we could get Mnaines to join in the investigation. He seems to know everything there is to know about police work and how it should be done. As far as the public getting involved to help the police, it happens all the time in missing person cases. How many cases of missing people have you seen reported where citizens have volunteered to help conduct searches.

As far as respect is concerned. You can sit back at you keyboard and criticize and demean others, but let someone question your views or opinions and you go hyper indignant. Sorry if I offended you sensitivities. You’ll have to forgive the audacity of me in having a view different than yours and expressing it. I home it hasn’t caused you any undue stress or irreparable emotional or psychological harm.

I heard the sweet little bloodhound they used to try to find her was three legged, deaf and blind....they called her "Lucky"....she did a great job....they did have to revive her once when she ran into a tree and she was a little slow.....but that worked out "ok"....gave the cop's more "starbuck's" time....!!!

Stress? Not a bit, you are the least of my worries. But if I did I could sue, that is the American way, right?
Apparently you missed some of my earlier comments that I deleted.
I think the Sheriff has a great suggestion.

jhhwingnut, thanks for the laugh.

It's a very sad thing that this woman is missing, and what makes it even sadder is how cases like this show how screwed the people in our society are and not just the perpetraitors of this crime but the way people on these blogs use it as an excuse to make jokes and take cheap shots at others on here and so on,pathetic.Something else, with this being a local woman there is a chance that a member of her family may actually read these comments so lets show a little bit of decency keep the stupid comments to ourselves.

Fox 4 reported, and showed, authorities continuing the search of the area. This time they are not only using helicopters and dogs, they are also using officers on horseback and ATV's. They stated that the lead was due to Rene Prienze's phone being found in the park.

The problem for dogs in doing a search at this time of year is the lack of enough heat to promote decomposition of the remains, and the lack of heat also causes problems in being able to follow a "cold" trail.

I hope that they are able to find her, and I am especially hopeful that she is still alive. Her children need to have a mother to raise them.

Sorry to slap you with a stick vision but this is very far off the mark. They have actually solved 70 and are reviewing 14 of them
Here is the link to the stats

originalmo_trucker, the DEA has cameras mounted on helicopters that can give a image of drugs hidden within the fender well of a vehicle driving down the highway, the capability of solving crimes is there.

Vision, what you are referring to is thermal imaging, it has been around for years but it can not discern whether or not you are talking about a package within the fenderwell that contains drugs or a piece of insulation that was placed there by the owner to cut down on noise or heat. (CSI has made so many people experts! Sorry pal, but I had over ten years in Law Enforcement and I know most of the capabilities of the equipment in use, and know that most agencies do not have all of the "bells and whistles" in equipment.)

As far as using thermal imaging in this case you have to remember that if standard proceedure was followed the Law Enforcement Agency did not begin an investigation for 24 to 48 hours after the disappearance without suspicions that something occurred to Rene Pernice. (Whenever a third party, someone other than the spouse, reports an adult as missing it is assumed that it is a low priority case.) The main thing that has raised suspicion was the strained relationship that Shon and Rene Pernice had previously and the claim that they were having difficulties once again. Just because Shon did not report the disappearance, has refused to cooperate with the Police and has retained attorneys does not mean that he had anything to do with her disappearance. As to the search of the home and the "evidence" taken into custody, it could simply be anything that might provide hair or body fluid samples, to written documents or firearms. Too many things would be on the list of what could be of importance to an investigation of this type to speculate.

It wasn't CSI, it was the DEA's home page, and the images also showed if people were people smuggled in the trunks. It gave a pretty detailed image.

Another "cold" case, sorry to say.

Well I hope that they find the woman and she is alive, maybe she was abducted and her cell phone was dropped. For her children, I hope so.

Thermal imaging works when you are working with a heat differential. In the example you mentioned, it was the difference between a human body temperature and the ambient temperature within the vehicle, and from its operation.

In a missing persons case it works whenever there is a living subject within an area, but if you are looking for a deceased person the problem becomes that the longer the deceased is left in an area the closer thier body temperature approachs the ambient air temperature. (As a general rule a body will achieve ambient temperature in 8 to 12 hours. The level of the temperature in the area where the body is, along with factors such as wind, rain, snow, and the amount of clothing on the body also affects the amount of time it takes.) During the day time, as temperatures warm, there will also be differences that occur in the thermal image. Specifically, as the ground and surrounding area warms the body will warm at a different rate. Because of this difference in the rate of heat exchange the body will appear under thermal imaging.

I hope no one was confused by the previous, just wanted to explain how the DEA pictures worked, and to point out the problems with using thermal imaging, and why on site searches will be necessary.

Looking for the pot of Gold! For those who have requested some type of "bio". Well here it goes, I chose this picture because it is my favorite cartoon characters. I can relate to the cat, the way he sneakly holds the prized possession of gold to offer Tweety. That cat is always up to something, and Tweety always escapes. I find that many people, and groups of people work in the same manner. So for the cat looking for a "bio", here it is. "Ask me, I'll decide if I want to tell you".
