GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - A state government panel in Colorado says it may ask the federal government to expand its capacity to jail illegal immigrants in that state and in Wyoming.

The panel includes Colorado state legislators and law enforcement officials. It's reviewing immigration enforcement in Colorado and is considering training jail deputies to spot detainees who are in the country illegally.

The panel also is considering asking federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement to expand its capacity to hold illegal immigrants in Wyoming and Colorado.

Currently, ICE has about 700 beds at facilities it contracts with in Colorado and Wyoming, says Lance Clem, a spokesman for Colorado's Department of Public Safety.

The panel will likely meet once more before it delivers a final report to Colorado Governor Bill Ritter by the end of the year.

I thought the problem was that ICE and local law enforcement didn't have access to the same files. What kind of training would jail deputies need? If they had access to the same files, why would they need training? I don't understand.

I'm thinking this might be a visual/behaviorial type training. Not sure but something has to be done to get these people outta here and on their own side.

Hmmm. Will have to wait and see. I agree we need to get them out. Costing us way to much.

That's true, but it's hard for me to believe the cops don't already know how to spot illegals. It ain't rocket science!

That's what I was going to say, DiMur. I mean, how hard can it be?

If they don't habla and don't have any non-forged documents, then chances are good they're illegal. How much training is required to figure that out?

Why does it take a "panel" to reach this conclusion? Dang, these bureaucrats really know how to complicate things, don't they? I wonder how many illegals we could have bussed back to the border for what it cost to convene this panel.

I sure don't have any trouble spotting them. I can think of some pretty efficient ways to get rid of their @$$es too. But those damned bureaucrats won't listen to me. I guess they're too busy coming up with new and exciting ways to waste our money (this being a case in point).

Yup, Common sense just seems to escape the bureaucrats. Any thing to waste money on something frivolous particuraly when things are'nt so good. just deport the illegals it is that simple, after they are branded.

This sounds like a pacifier to me - just a way to make people THINK something is being done. I doubt it will really accomplish anything other than wasting time (and, of course, more of the taxpayers' money).

And if the cops really DO have trouble spotting illegals - well, that's where the branding iron comes in. Quick, cheap & easy.
