With Oprah Winfrey's appeal, power, financial resources, and star status, is she helping or hurting the Obama cause?  For example, she has the ability through her talk show to make any author a best seller just by giving a thumbs up via her book club.  Both Clinton's were the benficiaries of  "star" endorsements in their campaigns, but is it to the same extent that Obama is receiving from Oprah?

The thing I find curious about Oprah and Obama is that Oprah has Obama on her show, but says she won’t have any other presidential candidate on. I’m not sure she can legally get away with that. Her show is not a news program, it’s not even what I would call a “talk show.” I would think that her sponsors would be upset with her using her show, and by extension their product, as a platform to endorse a presidential candidate.

Now Oprah has a following and star power, but some people take their politics very seriously. If I were a celebrity I’m not sure I’d want to risk alienating a portion of my fan base by going public with my political views and endorsements. Oprah might just find that while her assistance might be helpful to Obama’s career, it could be detrimental to her own.

That is what makes Oprah a strong, independent, brave woman- never afraid to give her opinion on any topic! I too will tell everyone I know to vote for my candidate of choice, and the reasons why I favor that candidate- Oprah just has more people to tell. Oprah has a right to her opinions and endorsements- just like the rest of us. Hum, (sniff, sniff) is that jealously I smell?

Oprah can use her show however she wants and only the viewers and sponsors can stop her really.

As for Oprah as VP...no she couldn't afford the pay cut.

Whether she is helping or hurting Obama, I dont know. Some will like him better because he has the Oprah stamp of approval and others will hate him because of it. But the bottom line is in the end it will make almost zero difference in an election. Studies and research have proven time and time again about 1/2 of 1 percent of voters vote for someone because of who they are endorsed by.

IMO though I think Oprah is endorsing Obama because he is black. She has been chastised for years that she is not "black enough" and for her image she couldn't afford not to endorse a credible black candidate in the election. That's not to say she doesnt like Obama...but something strikes me this is about image more than substance but few in the field this year have substance.

On a side note....I think this election for the democrats turns out to be: Hillary-Presidentical Candidate and Obama VP candidate. For the Republicans it will be some combination of Huckabee and Guiliani...who's in what position yet to be determined.

I hope she does him some good. there are two things we need to accomplish in this election...1. eliminate the clintons from politics forever2. Put a republican in the white house again.Modern liberalism= socialism.

Well, after the Iowa results, I would hate to be one of Mme. Clinton's staffers. I bet the tornado of screaming fault-finding will not stop for a week. Once, she got so mad at Bill when he was (blah) president (blah), the Secret Service had to pull her off him. If I were a Hillary staffer, I would find some place else in the USA I needed to be today.

Back to topic.

I find it so repugnant when a celebrity thinks they are SO influential, SO important that millions will follow their lead.

Some can sing, some can dance, some can act and some can talk but NONE can tell me who I should vote for and my feeling is, how dare they think they should even try.

Having an opinion is one thing, setting yourself up as an opinion-maker is obscene and is the antithesis of everything American.
