Some people seem to put a lot of stock in the History Channel's perverted view of Christian celebrations.
Every culture brings to a celebration it's own traditional ways of celebrating, The Church (you remember when there was only one), never objected to the type or traditions of a celebration as long as the reason for the celebration was not compromised.
We are reminded annually, not to get caught up in the material aspects of Christmas but to remember "that God so loved us, He sent His only begotten Son...", We are not to get caught up in timing of the holiday, but to know that a day is set aside to show the love and glory, which he has sent us.
The adaptation of pagan celebrations is really a tribute to the numbers of nations that been 'baptised' by the church of the Apostles, who were sent to baptize all nations in the name of the 'father and he son and the Holy spirit.'
This modern 'spin' put on 'Pagan celebrations of men' is just Satan's way causing division with God's people..
Those who wish to 'paganize' different traditions from the Yule Log of the Norse tribes to the American looking for that 'perfect gift', would better spend their time realizing the perfect gift was given long ago and His reception of gifts of Royal gold, and holy incense, fragrant myrrh were a meant for His holy kingdom of heaven.Love,
Have a Merry and Blessed Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you and your family...
Nice post...

I pray and believe that more people will come to realize that "Jesus is the reason for the season" God in his mighty power can take situations to remind others that He is near.
I think now more than ever it is up to those who have a relationship with Christ to reach out and show others His love, grace and mercy...There is no better time than Christmas to share the good news.

"Oh what could I give to a child so small
Oh what could I give to Him
I know He is worth more than gold on this earth
Oh the child whose come for our sin
What could I give?
What would you give?

The apostles only observed God's Holy days, as did the Jewish born Jesus.

Christmas and Easter were co-opted pagan holidays. The "church" and government leaders, after the apostles were dead, renamed pagan holidays of the time to increase the church membership and their control of the masses. Money and power.

God is a jealous God and one of the Ten Commandments is for us to not worship any other gods or idols. He will not accept any excuses for pretending worship to Him with paganism simply because some men renamed the paganism to pretend Christianity about them.

It is sometimes hard to follow Jesus instead of just following man, isn't it? Just like quitting smoking is hard at first. And Satan will help us think up all kinds of phony excuses to follow him away from God. It is so much easier to think up excuses to not make the necessary changes in our lives, but unless we are willing to give up our current lives we cannot follow Jesus and God.

Please man or God as you so choose, because God has given us all the free choice to decide for ourselves to be with or against Him.

That idea of co-opted holidays is revisionist 'spin', used to justify someone's sense of righteousness.
Christ was born so we celebrate his birth because he was among other things human.
He rose, from the dead, after being buried, just before the Passover celebration, so we celebrate.
Eleven months out of the year Catholics are called pagans because they have statues in their churches, then around Christmas out comes the Nativity scenes.
We just like to look at our friends all year.

It's hard to fathom how you can believe the History channel, when you read that say Jesus' 'supposed birth' and alleged resurrection. They are clearly secular, and that is not another word for unbiased, it more closely means unbelieving.
Even what they say about the 4th of July is a clear attack at the heart of the celebration, the Declaration was dated after all JULY 4, 1776.

The Bible is more or less a Novella -- a collection of works by different authors. What concerns me most is that the general public, ie. most of the bloggers on this site, chose the authors in this great Book to follow. If you really read ALL of the Book, you wouldn't be able to lead your normal, everyday lives. There are too many things in the old and new Testaments that just don't jive -- so those of you talking about this Season, and what it really means, unless you follow EVERY command in this Book, you're just as bad as the rest of us that actually find this Season to be joyfull and peaceful. Just remember ONE of the rules of this great Novella - to treat your neighbor (everyone you meet) as you would like to be treated -- trust me, this city would be a much better place. Merry Christmas and God Bless!

JJenn;
You would be correct if Jesus had NOT come into this world and saved us from what we really deserve! This is what Christians realize and non-Christian don't! This is the TRUE meaning Of Christmas! I hope someday you will see the light! Also- "Holy men of old spoke as God the Holy Spirit moved them"! This is how God preferred to work His plan out for us. As far as God's Word being a "Novella"? Well I will let someone else comment on that falsehood.

Dannbetty;
Isn't it amazing that God placed His sacrificial Lamb in the very same manger where people from the Old Testament placed their sacrificial animals for the Temple?

You'll have those who will fight tooth and nail over these exact locations, and never see the reality over the symbolic or understand the symbolism of the realities. Example-Were there 3 Magi, star gazers?, and did they come to the 'city of bread' Bethlehem?
Apparently the shredding of the word of God into 'sound bites' has become blood sport for our new 'profits' (spelling intentional).

I have to say that according to Matthew 2, the wise men came from the east about 18 months to 2 years after the birth of Jesus. (The paintings of them at the birth are a myth, according to the Bible).

Instead of there being 3 men there were probably 800 to 1000 which was the usual size of a caravan which had to travel that far. the number 3 comes from the 3 gifts.

Yes, they were from (probably) today's Bagdad and they did read the stars and could tell that THEIR King had been born.

All great stuff!

My point is Yes, but whether they came to the manger, or after the celebration at the Temple, is not the vital element of the story.

I may have mispoke-I think Bethlehem translates to 'house of bread' as in the bread that came down from heaven.

The traditions that accompany the celebrations are not the ones spoken against in Paul's epistles.
People's need to associate the Easter bunny with fertility idols, thereby making it an evil transgression of God's purpose is just rediculous.
Time would be better spent speaking against real evil, like abortion.

"Christian" churches are not only accepting homosexuality today but even ordaining homosexuals as their leaders, even though the bible speaks out against homosexuality also. They also have their excuses to explain away their choice to do so, the same as those who are too lazy to leave those churches have their excuses so stay and follow man instead of following Jesus.

Choose the easy ways of ignoring God to follow man's church leaders, as they change what Jesus stands for over the centuries that He is not here to stop them, if you wish. Everyone has the God given freedom of choice to turn our back on God if we love our physical pleasures and material lives reveling among man more than we love God.

If I ever heard of condoning homosexuality in my church, I would leave immediately!

If someone in our congregation was "openly gay" and practicing that practice, I would bring them up for excommunication. And they would be excommunicated.

If a formal gay desired to worship with us and was repentant of that past sinful behavior,
He or she would be most welcome!

The Bible clearly teaches against homosexuality, those who repress that teaching will answer to our great Creator Jesus on judgment day. That is absolute truth! (not from the mind of man).
