There are heroes among us, some go unnoticed, and some receive the recognition they deserve for putting their lives on the line to protect our lives and freedom.  As America citizens we have the constitutional right to voice opinions, positive or negative. The "War Against Terrorism" has sparked many diverse opinions. However, no matter the opinion, loved ones have been lost and continue to die for the freedoms Americans put to use everyday.  Regardless of the controversry surroundind the war, those who are serving in the military deserve the respect of the American people - those who can speak without fear of persecution as they please. Putting a face with the mission sheds some realistic light on the people that sacrifice their lives and leave families behind everyday. ( My brother for me almost everyone sees a face)The U.S. occupied Iraq in an attempt to establish a new governmental regime. However, the coalition was unsuccessful at restoring order to the entire country, leading to a rough warfare with the Iraqi attacks and civil warfare between Sunni and Shia Iraqis. The causes and consequences of the war remain controversial. The morale of soldiers overseas and in the states is constantly wavering. The dedication and heart that is shown through the brave men and women should be acknowledged and appreciated. Americans should show their local troops how much they are appreciated even if it's just a pat on the back

I always ,without fail thank EVERY soldier I see.

You said:"
" coalition was unsuccessful at restoring order to the entire country, leading to a rough warfare with the Iraqi attacks and civil warfare". The coalition HAS been successful in restoring order to the country and many of the political benchmarks have been acheived or are about to be. Just clarifying-maybe you wrote y=this a year ago and are just now posting so I wanted to bring some of your facts up to date. Good Post!

How does the successful restoration of order explain all those mortar shells landing in the green zone on Easter Sunday? (I was speaking to a friend on Friday who just got back & was talking about the amount of fire that they are taking in the Green Zone. He was amazed that it's not been on the news.)

Odessacon:

Where are you getting your info on the political benchmarks? I know you generally have the sources to back up your statements & I have read little about progress on benchmarks. (Which admitedly, success makes for a poor news story.) Would be very interested in seeing it.)

jstol3- You are one we need to say THANK YOU to. You served our country and helped defend our freedom. Without people like you we would not beable to have this forum and speak our minds freely. Thank you!

ON one note- I accept responsibility for drawing away from what I was trying to say by adding debatable issues about the war. If possible lets stay on course and thank our vetrans and troops. Thank you.

Yes the shiites are starting again. i believe its because of the progress-they had to do something,Iraq oil revenues are being dispursed, many governmental allainces are being formed. Al sadur is flexing his muscle again because we have spanked them for most of the past year. This is the last ditch effort by his "militia" unless IRAN decides to fund and support them out in the open-then the rules change immensly.

UPDATE: The violence in Iraq of late is due to THE IRAQIS(themselves)are attemting to break up a crime syndicate of sorts that has been stealing oil.Us forces are not involved but are watching closely and the success of this operation will tell a lot about how soon Iraqi forces will be able to operate totally on their own.
