KURTIS THE STOCK BOY
AND
BRENDA THE CHECKOUT GIRL
In a supermarket, Kurtis the stock boy, was busily working when a new voice
came over the loud speaker asking for a carry out at register 4. Kurtis was
almost finished, and wanted to get some fresh air, and decided to answer the
call. As he approached the check-out stand a distant smile caught his eye, the
new check-out girl was beautiful. She was an older woman (maybe 26, and he was
only 22) and he fell in love.
Later that day, after his shift was over, he waited by the punch clock to find
out her name. She came into the break room, smiled softly at him, took her card
and punched out, then left. He looked at her card, BRENDA. He walked out only
to see her start walking up the road. Next day, he waited outside as she left
the supermarket, and offered her a ride home. He looked harmless enough, and she
accepted. When he dropped her off, he asked if maybe he could see her again,
outside of work. She simply said it wasn't possible.
He pressed and she explained she had two children and she couldn't afford a
baby-sitter, so he offered to pay for the baby-sitter. Reluctantly she accepted
his offer for a date for the following Saturday. That Saturday night he arrived
at her door only to have her tell him that she was unable to go with him. The
baby-sitter had called and canceled. To which Kurtis simply said, "Well,
let's take the kids with us."
She tried to explain that taking the children was not an option, but again not
taking no for an answer, he pressed.. Finally Brenda, brought him inside to meet
her children. She had an older daughter who was just as cute as a bug, Kurtis
thought, then Brenda brought out her son, in a wheelchair. He was born a
paraplegic with Down Syndrome.
Kurtis asked Brenda, "I still don't understand why the kids can't
come with us?" Brenda was amazed. Most men would run away from a woman
with two kids, especially if one had disabilities - just like her first husband
and father of her children had done. Kurtis was not ordinary - - - he had a
different mindset.
That evening Kurtis and Brenda loaded up the kids, went to dinner and the
movies. When her son needed anything Kurtis would take care of him. When he
needed to use the restroom, he picked him up out of his wheelchair, took him and
brought him back. The kids loved Kurtis. At the end of the evening, Brenda
knew this was the man she was going to marry and spend the rest of her life
with.
A year later, they were married and Kurtis adopted both of her children.
Since then they have added two more kids.
So what happened to Kurtis the stock boy and Brenda the check-out girl? Well,
Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Warner now live in Arizona , where he is currently employed
as the quarterback of the National Football League Arizona Cardinals and has his
Cardinals in the hunt for a possible appearance in the Super Bowl. Is this a
surprise ending or could you have guessed that he was not an ordinary person.
It should be noted that he also quarterbacked the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. He has also been the NLF's Most Valuable Player twice and the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player.

It is more than apparent that the current economic climate is a direct result of the housing boom and then bust. During the housing boom, consumers were consuming homes, furniture, electronics, etc. at an incredibly high rate pushing the prices up and creating jobs in a lot of sectors. Most stores offered interest free financing for a year and banks offered interest only loans so that people could better afford their products. Unfortunately, all of the notes came due at the same time and those people who never should have bought the things they did found out that they over-extended themselves and could not afford all of the things they bought (too bad they didn't pay attn in math class in high school). Therefore, these people were unable to pay their interest free loans and stores began to fail. Also, these people couldn't afford their home loans and banks began to fail. As stores and banks began to fail, people were let go of their jobs and less and less people had the money to consume.
Now, the govt and the banks are trying to figure out a way to keep people in thier homes so that we don't go into a deep depression. Those people who over consumed will be offered new terms on thier loans. As great an idea as this sounds, it's wrong. These are the types of people who don't have reliable jobs and they are being rewarded for their misdeeds while people like my hubby and I are choosing to save our money since we will not find the reward we deserve for our prudence.
My hubby and I need to buy a bigger home since I run my business out of my home and we are running out of room. Unfortunately, we cannot sell our home in the current market for what we believe it is worth and need to hold onto it a bit longer. We aren't over extended, but we will be if we buy a second home since the banks have no intention of allowing us to adjust the terms of our loan. This makes no sense. If the bank adjusted our terms to favor us a bit more with the understanding that we would buy a foreclosed home from them, we would do it and everybody would win. We would have our second home, the bank would not be sitting on a foreclosed property and they would get a second loan from us. It's a win-win-win.
What do you all think? Good solution?

Who uses more of our tax dollars, the boss or the employee? Let's break it down.
The employee uses the roads in order to drive or take the bus to work. The boss needs the roads to be there so that the employees can get to work to make the company money. Therefore, each employee splits the need for good roads equally with the boss (50/50). Since the boss employees 50 people, the boss needs those roads 50 times more than each individual employee.
If a boss pays the employee too low a wage for them to pay for health insurance and/or doesn't cover a significant amount of the coverage, the employee must use ACHCSS to pay for doctor's bills. Since the employer needs a healthy employee to be at work making it money, once again the employee and the boss split this need equally. Since the boss employs 50 people, the boss needs the health care provided by the govt. 50 times more than each individual employee.
If a boss pays the employee such a low wage that they cannot afford to eat, the employee must go on food stamps. The boss needs the employee fed so that the employee can make money. Since the boss employs 50 people, the boss needs food stamps provided by the govt. 50 times more than each individual employee.
If a boss pays the employees enough for everything listed above, but not enough so that the employees aren't living pay check to pay check and can save up for retirement and health insurance when they are old, the employees will need everything listed above when they are both in between jobs and retired as well as Medicare and social security. Since the boss employs 50 people, the boss needs Medicare (etc.) provided by the govt. 50 times more than each individual employee.
Because the boss makes as much money as possible while paying the employees the lowest wage possible (supply and demand allows a citizen to undercut another citizen to get the job), most families of the employees need both the mother and father to work outside the home. However, the spouse of the boss most likely has the luxury of being a stay at home parent which means the spouse has time to enjoy the parks, museums, libraries, etc. 2-100 times more often than the families of the employees. And don't forget, not only is the spouse enjoying these priviledges, but so are the 2.5 kids and dog.
Obviously, the boss uses our tax dollars at 2-10 (10 is actually an infinite number depending on the size of the business which varies directly with the amount of money the company and the boss make) times more than the employees do, yet the boss does not pay 2-10 (infinite) more in tax dollars than their employees especially since the boss employs yet another employee to exploit tax loop holes since the boss is obviously a business savvy person.
And there you have it. Sometimes people on this site who are obviously not that intelligent make me wonder why it is that people like me fight for them when they are too dumb to realize that the intelligent, rich, UNSCRUPULOUS people trick them into shooting themselves in the foot.

Remember a while back when everyone was up in arms because Paris Hilton was released early after driving on a suspended license due to a DUI so that she could pick up some burgers at In and Out while she was sober? Can someone please explain why NOBODY has said ANYTHING about the FACT that Keiffer went to jail for his...not first, not second, not third, but FOURTH DUI?!?!?
Boycott 24. Show Keiffer you don't approve of his lifestyle. What a putz.

Remember sweet Sarah Palin and her charges that Obama was guilty by association and 'palled around with terrorists'? I wonder what she is saying now?
Apparently, Palin pals around with meth drug dealers (rumor has it that her son went into the army to escape drug charges) as Levi Johston's mom has been arrested on 6 FELONY COUNTS the day before Bristol is set to give birth to her 2nd...er..1st baby on Saturday.

For those of you who whine if I don't put up the link since google is sooooo hard to operate.
I love the Palins!!! They are the new white trash family of America. Can't wait to see Bristol's new baby tomorrow.

Last week, some people, including Rick, became very upset that I proposed that Phoenix get a section for blogs about faith. While I am confused as to why Rick and Damoze are so against this, I still feel it is a valid question.
If one chooses to check out the multitude of 'MyFox' websites, one will find that EVERY state in the Bible Belt is afforded this luxury and this section is quite popular. Having noticed the many blogs written by Mayflower and even Rick regarding this subject as well as the many responses, it is more than apparent that the demand for a section dedicated to religious thought is there. In fact, there is an option for one to post in this section, so 'they' acknowledge that this may be necessary in the future; yet 'they' have not set this section up.
Website managers, I'd like to know if you feel this need exists. If you feel the demand is there, when can we count on the addition of this section? For those of you who are against this idea, I imagine you won't feel the need to post your opinion on this blog, however, I encourage you to do so as I'd like to know your opinion.

Looks like Christian Conservatives are on the attack (again) as hate crimes against gays and Latinos are steadily rising. In NY, a group of Christian Conservatives have taken a bat to a LEGAL immigrant (it's hard to tell them apart) and have beaten him to death while shouting anti-gay slurs. It's a real shame that Christians have fostered such disgust and hate towards a group of people who choose thier own path in life rather than allow Christians to tell them how to live (perhaps he shoudl have married one of their daughters and then broke her heart when he wasn't interested in her...parts).
Fortunately, however, LIBERALS have had enough of the hatred spewed by the Christians and have taken to the street in protest asking for an end to all of the hate that Christians cling to (especially Ken). If only Christian zealots like the pope, the mormon leaders and Joel, the leader of the Protestant 'army' would speak out against this type of violence and speak out in favor of harsh penalties for those who commit heinous crimes rather than side with the violent, these crimes may start to decline. Unfortunately, it does not appear that that is going to happen any time soon.

With apologies to azbob:
All that the radical right racists have done over the last few weeks was show their godlessness, their disrespect for others choices opinions and vote, they presented themselves in a childish manner. And acted in a criminal way. They disgraced and degraded themselves with their actions and response. It was nothing more then a major setback for their cause, they displayed their true colors, their lack of control. It was all disgraceful and distasteful. It was handled in a malicious and vengeful way. A very poor vision of self control. You have once again earned your place in society as a low grade of people. And to think your movement was going forward maybe at a slow pace but never the less you all shamed yourselves in an unforgiving way. In my blog, I write about racist issues and stated that the racists were not all crazy and/or violent people or proposed a harm to society, damn was I wrong or what. Your display has earned you what you got ...no respect. and more disrespect.
Now, enough about this idiotic concocted birth cert. story and discriminatory Muslim accusation already. You've made America look stupid enough over the past 8 years. Now, please, just zip your lips while we try to save our reputation if you haven't tarnished beyond repair already.

Let's make sense of this for a moment. If you drive drunk, you lose your license for some time making it 'more difficult' to drive a car. Is driving the car really the problem? When we keep people from driving their car, we keep them from working which leads to a lot of free time to ... drink and some may lose their job making it possible for them to collect benefits provided by the govt. In other words, we punish the driver in order to 'reward' them later.
My solution...take their license and ID and issue them another one that does not permit them to buy alcohol. Make it difficult for the drunk to get a hold of alcohol; which is the problem we should be focusing on. Treat DUI offenders like teenagers. If anyone is caught buying for or selling alcohol to a covicted drunk driver during their probationary period should suffer HUGE fines.
Does this make sense to everyone else?

Once again, the pro-lifers prove that they are in fact, not pro-life. It's time they change their name to pro-fetus b.c once you are born, they are alright with you being killed.
Pro-fetus people would like the govt. to allow 5 year olds to die. Pro-fetus people are against welfare programs and universal health care and they are the ones who would like to see the 8 year old charged as an adult so that the death penalty is an acceptable punishment. Isn't it more than obvious that they are not pro-life at all?
Quit lying about your views. Quit lying about who you are. Quit pretending that you are so much better than Obama who you accuse of being a fetus killer while you are a baby/child/adult killer.
The REAL pro-lifers need to take back the title from the liars.

No more sex. That's right, the GOP don't want Americans to have sex anymore. Perhaps I should clarify this. Baby making is alright; sex for pleasure, even with your spouse, isn't.
Bush has gone on a rampage against contraceptives. The religious right does not believe in any sort of contraceptive. Therefore, a pharmacist, a religious right wing pharmacist, can refuse to fill an Rx for birth control pills. A sales clerk, a religious right sales clerk, can refuse to sell condoms. Perhaps this is why I gave up the Christian God. He isn't much fun.
Having said that...one has to wonder if this means that Walgreens, etc. can ask what the religious affiliation of someone applying to be a pharmacist at their store. If that pharmacist is a Christian, Walgreens should be permitted not to hire them. Therefore, it seems that religious discrimination is now acceptable (made even more obvious by the gay marriage ban).
What do you guys think? Is it time to have signs that say "Christians Only" in store fronts?

It's amazing to me that the Republican Party and News Media are ignoring a few very important 'accomplishments' of the Bush administration. Therefore, I thought that I would list them for you...
1. Bush helped raise HIV levels in Africa to what they were before Clinton, during his daddy's administration, by changing strategies from Clinton's safe sex campaign to Bush's abstinance program. Well done.
2. Bush helped raise unemployment levels to what they were before Clinton, during his daddy's admin, by reducing taxes of the rich rather than the middle class who are the consurmers in the USA.
3. Bush made a bunch of money for the rich CEOs by giving them a bones of $30,000 for every million they make.
4. Bush made a bunch of money for his oil buddies.
5. Bush helped Al Queda recruit many more sympathizers who would want to destroy America which is why AQ supported his presidency.
6. Bush raised the debt to unbelievable numbers fighting a war while lowering taxes.
7. Bush put our country up for sale making it possible for foreign interests (Arabs mostly) to buy America.
8. Bush made a bunch of money for his buddy, Cheney, by starting a war in Iraq.
9. Bush funded the 'renaissance' in the ME by choosing companies like Haliburton who have now decided to move their operations to the ME.
10. Bush lowered capital gains taxes making it less likely that companies would hire people and invest in machinery etc. rather than be hit by taxes at the end of the year.
11. Bush grew the govt. more than any other President in my lifetime.
So...I have to ask...why are there still Republicans?

Up until now, I have thought it may be possible to come out of the Bush administration without too many scars, apparently, I was wrong. He has managed to DESTROY all the work Clinton did.
Unemployment soared .4% in just one month!!! The unemployment rate is at 6.5% which is a 14 year high. Guess what was going on 14 years ago? Clinton was fixing the unemployment mess Bush's dad made and the rate was on its way down. If unemployment increases by just 1.3%, Bush would have put us exactly where we were when his daddy left office. As I learned in the past 24 hours of 800 jobs being eliminated in AZ alone, I think Bush will have an easy time making that happen. Why aren't Republicans pissed off about this!?!?!?!!?!
To those of you who are not 'volunteering' to participate in the recession, it appears more and more that you may just be drafted. Let's hope that Obama can do what Clinton did and save us from economic disaster. Here's to hope.

While watching the election results, my bf asked me why it was such a big deal to have a 60-40 split in the Senate. Today, I read a post saying that Democrats have had 'control' of Congress and therefore should have already enacted change. Therefore, I thought it may be a good idea to review how they system of checks and balances work.
All branches, Executive, Lesgislative and Judicial are equal. None is more powerful than the other. To keep this balance in check, the forefather gave the Judicial branch lifelong appointments. This way they couldn't be voted out for upholding the Constitution. THey coulodn't be removed from office by the Pres for upholding the Constitution. The Legislative branch has the power to make laws and over rule the President. However, to keep that power in check, they must have a TWO THIRDS MAJORITY in favor of the override of all vetos. The Executive branch has the 'final review' on all bills and shapes foreign policy, to keep that in check, the Pres. vetos can be overruled and the other branches can declare things like the Patriot Act as unconstiutional, etc.
Since our focus is the Democratically controlled Congress, let's focus on their strenghts and weaknesses. The Democrats had a majority with 51 Senators beginning in JANUARY OF 2007. Unfortunately, in just 1 year and 10 months, they have not been able to get enough Republicans on their side to make up the 16 Senator deficit they have in order to overrule the President, a Republican, when he vetos their bills. The same is true in the House. Sure, the Democrats had a majority, but not enough Republicans are in favor of change, so they did not have the votes there either.
So, you can see that the Democrats have not had the ABILITY to inflict change until 2009 when they have a much more commanding majority and a President who agrees with them (hence the 'blank check' charge by Republicans). Keep in mind, though, that the REPUBLICANS had the MAJORITY AND THE PRESIDENT FROM 2001--2006 which means they had complete control of the direction of the country. And, I'd like to know why you guys either 1. think they did such a great job or 2. why aren't you mad that your party did such a poop job?
