SmartTravel.com recently named Kansas City as one of the "top 5 travel destinations to watch" along with Riviera Nayarit, Vancouver, Peru, * Vilnius, Lithuania.

What have the folks at SmartTravel.com been smokin'?

Part of their rationale for KC's selection was the Sprint Center & the Power & Light District.

Insert vomiting emoticon here!!!

Guess the selection committee either a.) has only seen the pretty pictures of the vivid blue lights in the area, or b.) haven't yet been victimized by overzealous towing companies at the time of publication.

I can think of 100 other places in KC I'd rather visit that the P&L district/Spit Center (no typo), and at least that many other U.S destinations that I would recommend my friends/relatives to visit other than KC (starting with the mayor's office/house/love nest, etc).

Enjoy your stay, and the tow lots will leave the light on for you!

lol...Fortunately for me, I found something to counter predatory tow truck companies...They will still be able to take my car, but the moment the car is tilted to be towed away, the car goes into full alarm mode, the starter is disabled, and the transmission shift lock engages so it cannot be shifted out of park. I'd love to see them try to explain the reason for towing when I walk out to reset the alarm...

the Tow company dont care if the car is stuck in Park or if the starter is locked out, they use Roll off wreckers, they drag them on and slide them off, and if needed they will cut you lead cable on the starter to shut the siren off.

If Kansas City is in the top 5 destinations, that just means that everywhere else Must suc a little less that KC

Tow truck drivers are deaf. All the news stations tried to talk to them as they stole people's cars and held them for ransom, cash only in the amount of $300-$415.

Putting up with a noisy alarm would be the least of their problems for 15 min of work.

Same thing for a thief after they bust the window out and steal the stereo.

If it wasnt for the crime, racism, shoot-em-up cowtown mentality, Kansas City would be worth visiting.
But an honest assessment here, if anyone blogged here very often, there is no way an educatated individual would want to visit your great and historic city. Very sad, truly sad, my loss and loss to an untold multitude of people. KC,get your S____ together.

Wow you put up a few lights, throw a canopy over the top of a outdoor park, place a couple of bars close and add a music system and for this KC is placed on inside scam travel list to visit. They need out of towners becaus all the KCMO people figured out the scam of ID theft by third party (no fault) scanned at the door and the tow racket.

Oh please nervous will. rosco is right, the shoot 'em up mentality is confined to about a 1 sq mile area. Let's see, every time there's a shooting, it's on garfield, bellefontaine, baltimore.... from probably north of I-70. As for racism? It exists everywhere. It's no more here than anywhere else. Psssst... your elitist attitude is showing. I live here and I'm educated (believe it or not)

And yes this designation is a joke. The P&L district is like a strip mall in a city like Denver or chicago.

Sprint center? BFD, it's an arena. Every city has at least one.

This is odd.

This is a bit off subject, but I read some posts about the tow truck scam around Spit center...(I went there a year ago and totally agree with jp.....it's "just a little auditorium"...Geezz....we've had three or four nice auditorium's for a long time, I mean I always thought the Municipal Aud. was "kool" to go to....from the time I was in grade school and then we have Bartle Hall, American Royal and Kemper Arena..!!

Anyway, the towing part made me think about a question....I normally watch fact based, documentary type TV....animal or military stuff, but one night last week when I turned my TV on, it was on a channel featuring an "all day marathon" of the show "Repo-man"...I had never watched it before, frankly, it really looked stupid, which it was...(my opinion only)....I started to change the channel as usual, but the yelling of this huge, tatooed guy got my attention, so I continued watching for quite a while...(this guy reminded me of a huge wrestler like "Hulk Hogen") with the demeanor of caged Lion....!! Huge, muscular and very intimadating...as I watched more of the program I got increasingly irritated by what I was witnessing...this Repo service was owned by a big Hispanic guy and his much bigger, tatooed sister, (please don't come down on me about the "Hispanic, tatoo's or the fat sister part) I'm just describing the scenario....anyway...I watched these, thug looking individual's swoop down on these unsuspecting people, yelling and threatening them to "get outta the way", that they were repoing their vehicle and stay out of the way & trying to "scare" them into

trying to "scare" them into giving them their key's...alot of these repo's were being done on the people's property or driveway....I know alot of you will say..."they were behind on their payments and deserve the repo"....but I was wondering what gives these repo guy's the "legal" right to 1)take their car at all 2)go onto private property to do it and 3)threaten and harrass them if the guy/gal comes out to even question who they are and what they're doing on their property...!?!?!

Sorry didn't mean to change the jest of the post but I just wanted to see if there was a "legal mind" out there that could shed some light on our right's....and/or the actual right's or legality's concerning these "repo" guy's....I just can't believe, because some loan business hasn't gotten a few payments on someone's truck these repo business's have the right to do these thing's totally unsupervised by any law enforcement agency....what about trespassing law's....and how would a guy know these guy's weren't "just stealing a car"...??

I would hate to think what my girlfriend would do to them, living out here in the country, and catching a couple of goooorilla's like that trying to pick up her truck some nite....LOL....they would have to get paid alot for repoing, to make it worth it....she has some friends that are police officers here in the metro.....they told her "you don't even have to drag them into your house anymore"...LOL...of course thats why the two largest anti-gun groups are law enforcement and the criminal's.

Kansas City is a great City. But not very many people see outside the Sprint Center, or Power & Light distric.
