I just read an article on F4 reporting that the former mayor's office employee who allegedly was discriminated against just "upped the ante" on her lawsuit against the city to $800,000.  They are also threatening a "slander" lawsuit because of Mayor Funkhouser's statement after settling his portion of the original suit, and claim the amount they are seeking increased as a direct result of his statement (sometimes the truth really does hurt, huh??)

I would love to see the attorney's calculations to substantiate this amount.

To me, this matter has now gone from a lawsuit to extortion.  Isn't that against the law in this country.

The attorney ought to be disbarred and this lady thrown in jail for even suggesting her "mental anguish & pain and suffering" amounted to even 1% of that amount.

Shame on them!

I agree, the $45,000.00 was reasonable, but this $800,000.00, that is a gold digger looking to happen, in a bad economy. I just wonder, when the economy is bad should there be caps placed on lawsuits of discrimination, beings most of it is perception of the event. Where do we draw the line, between reasonable and extortion?

While I agree with you in principal that her "mental anguish, pain & suffering" are not worth the amount she's asking for. She is within her rights to do so.

I am more upset with a mayor who is STUPID enough to make those comments after HIS part of the settlement is reached and the city (which he is supposed to be taking care of) is still in talks. Only a moron wouldn't have seen this coming. Either Funkhouser deliberately tried to upset her so she would raise her settlement offer with the city or he is a complete idiot &social incompetent not to have expected her to retaliate when he made those statements. I leave it to you to decide...I don't really know which is worse.

Well I guess Bates really wants to PO a "Italian" woman.
All I can say to that is, good luck, the act of political extortion, huh, don't think I would try it.

I don't think the twit deserves anything. On any given day a kid on a playground is called worse name than Mammy. This witch is nothing more than a gold-digging professional victim.
The Funk is so stupid though he was just asking for someone to exploit him. I absolutlely hate people with thier preditory lawsuits. It's a crime that America puts up with it!

Mammy needs to get a life. She's ridiculous. The settlement shouldn't even happen if she's threatening to sue for slander. She's nothing but an opportunistic bitc*.

You can call me a cracker for far less than this. Heck I'd settle for $25k.

Please? Someone call me a cracker?

It's become the norm, someone is called a name...sue the bastar*, and it is upheld by juries who don't want to argue the principle of it's ubsurdity, and just what to go home rather than take a little time to stand up to this blackmail, which proliferates the acts to be repeated.

Funny how ethnic people can call themselves names, but when someone else calls them the same name, it time to contact a lawyer.

Maybe I should start a class action suit, againist society as a whole for calling us baby killers, and psycho killers when we came home from Vietnam, Yes and walking time bombs, I should get some money for being called a white honky too.

good one ralex.

You know here's another idea. If politicians could sue each other for calling themselves "hitler" or "nazi-like".... they'd tie up the court system for years.
