Injured Deer Attacks Hunter In '15 Seconds of Hell'

A Sedalia hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain.

Forty-nine-year-old Randy Goodman said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell."

The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

I think the deer by virtue of the hunters killing each other have racked up more than one point nationwide.

Ya it happens. This is why I usually carry a pistol, and always a knife. When I hunt black powder I re load before I start tracking the animal.

Deer will fight only as a last resort (or if you're like my brother in law who covers himself in doe estrus LOL)... but when they do it's not pretty.

KS rifle season opens tomorrow. I'm about to pee my pants! Been hunting 2 months archery... play time is OVER.

Go get em biker!!! Be careful out there....it's not the deer I would be worried about, but all the amateurs out there around you...

I've seen the supposed "when animals attack" footage of that big buck duking it out with the hunter....turns out that was all "staged" by the guy, who doused himself in "Tinks!" Guess that stuff works after all...

Ya that's why i really prefer archery season tges.

There are so few bow hunters that I have the place all to myself. And if any other bow hunters do show up, well.... arrows don't go very far.

I can shoot in any direction I want w/o having to worry about houses, roads, other people, etc.

But as for the deer... I've shot more than a few of them, never had one jump up on me yet. But I'm ready if it does.

Man the weather is supposed to really suck tomorrow. Not good at all for deer movement.

We'll probably have to drive them. I doubt they'll move by themselves if it's as bad as the forecast says.

Well it's all over for KS rifle season now. I have never hunted so much for so little! I still have empty trailer syndrome after many days of hunting. But I still say a bad day of hunting is better than a good day at work!

Now I have a choice - 2 weeks of archery season left to punish myself, or just put it all up and go for turkeys.

Or wait for bazooka season....
