Just a heads up that if you tend to give gift
cards around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards may not be
honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after
Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though
the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them
from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankrupcy
Planning'. Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be
cautious about.

Kansas City, MO (AP) - A seven-year old boy was
at the center of a Jackson
County courtroom drama
yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of
him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge
initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and
regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to the highest degree
possible.
The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than
his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then
suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said that they
also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and
learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the
judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should
have custody of him.
After two recesses to check legal references and confer with the child welfare
officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Kansas City Chiefs, whom
the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

Coming up on the holiday season I know that some of us will be out shopping for gifts or what not and I wanted to share this with you;
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves
This is a group dedicated to supporting our National Guard and Reserves troops who have been called to active duty and deployed. Often this means that they take a pay cut because they earn more at their civilian jobs than they do with their military pay. Many employers out there have pledged to keep these individuals who have been called up on the full books of the company and continue to pay these military members the difference between what they were making with their jobs and what they are now making during their full time service. On this website you can see a map of the country at the bottom of the page and with that map you can pick a state. They will provide a list to you of companies that have pledged to put our troops first.
If you would like to support these companies who support our troops please visit:

...for the stupid election season to be over. These clowns have been poluting our tv airways and blog boards for two years now. Two freaking years we've had to listen to all the he said she said bull-oh-ney from people who only care about their political careers and nothing more, nothing less. Crimoney, it's old already. How early are they going to start campaigning for the 2012 election, next year? I'm tired of the lies and the liars. I'm tired of the half-truths, half-lies, distortions, finger pointing & general blasphemy that this elections campaigns have delivered to us.
and after all of the last two years messes, I finally know who I'm voting for;
I'm voting for apple pie. I'm voting for a nice KC Strip steak cooked rare/medium rare on my Weber grill. I'm voting for a drink in my hand, a chair to park my butt in and watching the kids catch fireflys. I'm voting for enough snow this year to let the kids build the biggest snowman in the neighboorhood. I'm voting for my job to give me a raise, I'm voting for my truck to start every time I turn the key, I'm voting for my roof to last another year or two before I have to replace it. I'm voting for those size 8 jeans that she looks so damn fine sexy in. I'm voting to win the bad beat at the poker table. I'm voting to get another wall worthy buck this year. I'm voting for made in America. I'm voting for our veterans. I vote for Liberals and Conservative to join forces and make the best of a bad situation to square this country away. I'm voting for Pedro.

MARINES ATTACKED
IN BERKELEY, CA
City Calls Marines “Unwelcome Intruders”
SAN
FRANCISCO – The City of Berkeley, California has passed two resolutions
attacking the United States Marine Corps, calling the Marines,
“uninvited and unwelcome intruders in the city.”
The
Berkeley City Council voted to condemn the Marines on Tuesday night
(January 29th) as part of a campaign by anti-war activists to shut down
a U.S. Marine Recruiting Center located in the city of Berkeley.
The votes by the Berkeley City Council were immediately condemned by Move America Forward (website: www.MoveAmericaForward.org), the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization.
“It
is disgraceful that in the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement,
anti-military activists would attempt to silence the same military men
and women who serve this country and give their lives to protect the
free speech rights of all Americans, including these ungrateful and
despicable people on the Berkeley City Council,” said Melanie Morgan,
Chairman of Move America Forward.
The actions by the
Berkeley City Council followed continuous protests by Code Pink and
other anti-military organizations that vandalized and defaced the U.S.
Marine Recruiting Center in September 2007.
One of the two
resolutions passed by the Berkeley City Council last night granted a
parking spot in front of the Marine Recruiting Center to be used by
anti-military activists to harass Marine recruiters. The anti-military
activists would not need to apply for a sound permit for the next six
months – allowing them free reign to disrupt the day-to-day operations
by the Marines.
Move America Forward organized a
counter-protest in support of the Marines last October that attracted
over 400 pro-troop supporters who stood in solidarity of the Marine
Recruiting Center.
“We have hundreds of thousands of
military men and women serving honorably overseas to protect our
freedoms. Imagine how they feel when they go to turn on the news and
see that they are being stabbed in the back by shameful people here at
home, it’s disgraceful!” said Catherine Moy, Executive Director of Move
America Forward.

I for one am outraged and feel a personal responsibility to tell those people what I think about their ridiculous resolution and tell them where they can go if they don't like Americas military and the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform have made for this country. In case there might be anyone here who takes this issue personally like I have, I have taken the liberty of rounding up the following public information for the mayor and city council of berekeley CA.
