Has anyone else heard this? My Aunt just returned from a conference in D.C. . She says one of the guest speakers was a man that had connections to trucking in some way. ( I don't know what) He told the audiance that the Truckers are planning a week long strike to protest fuel prices. It is supposed to take place in the next couple of weeks. Now this could be a bunch of bunk but I am hoping there is a Trucker that reads this blog that can either confirm or deny this story. Please don't freak I am not sure if this is legit( not my aunt but the man at the conference). I do know they already had 1 day they went on strike before and no one seemed to notice so I am not sure even if they do what effect it will have. I just was wondering if anyone had heard anything...Thanks

I heard something similar to this too. Here's my concern/question - how can truckers stop working for one week (NO PAY) to justify making a statement? The increase in diesel costs is less expensive that not getting paid for a week and potentially losing ticked off customers not receiving their products.

It's more of a political issue where you need to hold your local politicians (State Senator) responsible. The railroads would like to see this week long strike they'll generate so many new customers it won't be funny.

We need to weather this storm that's been brewing over 8 years and hope November has a positive outcome. My best advice is...

ROCK YOUR VOTE!

They are breaking even with the cost of gas and diesel...... Taking a week off will not effect them and will make a statement..... I hope they pull it off and solidarity exists with the truck drivers...... We will suffer some but I am willing to go the cause.....

I worked at a gas station for 17 years. According to my boss; it won't do any good. When you see the prices low; and then they shoot up 15-20 cents; it's because the stations were selling below cost; and then they shoot up to recoop(sp) their loss. So, even if they do go on strike; it may lower the gas price that week; but then they will hike it back up to where it was; or higher.

I think the whole issue is not to think the cost will be lowered because they don't work but to bring more attention to the issue itself. As spoiled, free moving Americans we are paying the price for our mobility.

Our President says the issue is lack of drilling for oil and building refineries....who builds them the companies that are making billions per quarter....? Many would have us believe this is not happening because we the people will not allow it. We the people as in our elected officials. So when did the oil companies stop being able to buy the political voice they want? Sure not in the last 8 years..! I believe the oil companies have us right where they want us..!

I've heard rumors of a trucker's strike several times, and it has never happened. I think this is just someone wanting to spread fear. Do you really think that the big trucking companies are going to risk alienating their customers just to make a statement? Also, consider the number of independent truck drivers (owner/operators), do you really think that there will be much solidarity among them, just to make a statement?

Stopping the trucks for a week will have little, if any, lasting impact on the price of fuel. Any attention gotten in this manor will be forgotten by the American people in a month or two.

"But war, in a good cause, is not the greatest evil which a nation can suffer. War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice – a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice – is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other." - John Stuart Mill
