A Gulf Oil CEO claims tht gas may go down to about ONE dollar a gallon next year!   I am happy with the $1.77 a gallon I am paying now.  I use about two gallons of gas each day.  The $4+ a gallon gas a few months ago was killing me.  If we could be sure that gas would never go higher than it is now, and sometimes would dip to $1 a gallon, the automakers would be able to sell all of those big gas hogs they are tryin to get rid of.  I wonder how soon the gas prices will start rising again.

Do you still think we should drill our own oil?

Isn't it amazing how quickly gas prices have plummeted right when the bailouts started?

Only if you like gas to cost $2.50/gallon.

Notice that as soon as the Dem was elected Pres and Dems gained a true majority in Congress that gas prices plummetted?

Or...perhaps it is that the oil Pres is on his way out....

I keep hearing that 'now that oil prices are so low we can afford all these 'bailouts'.....
Doesn't make any sense at all. We can NOT afford to continue nationalizing everything in the country! 7 TRILLION dollars is a ridiculous amount of debt. And not one word about the economic impact and job losses associated with the fall of oil prices. Think of how many thousands will be out of work because of it.

AKSJFD , I DON'T THINK THE DEMS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT , NOT THAT I WOULD SIDE WITH THE DEMS , ITS THE LACK OF DEMAND , AND YES I THINK WE SHOULD DRILL ARE OWN OIL , THAT'S ALL WE NEED WHEN SOME CHEESE BALL BLOWS SOMETHING UP IN THE MIDDLE EAST OR HUG CHAVEZ TO GET A BUG UP HIS AZZZZZ FOR THE PRICE OF CRUDE TO RISE , WE NEED TO BE SELF SUFFICIENT

I BELIEVE IT IS BRAZIL THAT IS VERY SELF SUFFICIENT , WHEN THERE IS UNREST IN THE WORLD THERE GAS PRICES STAY PRETTY MUCH THE SAME , NOT 100% IF ITS BRAZIL BUT ITS ONE OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRIES

1. Lack of demand in Iraq.
2. During the war, Iraq was producing 1 million barrels less per day. They are back up to prewar levels as of a few months ago.
3. Pigs have quit driving their SUVs/8 cyl car/trucks.

All of this is thanks to the Dems who insisted on an exit strategy and fuel efficient vehicles. Too bad Bush and the Reps had such a long time in office to eff things up. Perhaps people should have thought harder about who they wanted for Pres 4 yrs ago....but, at least I get to say, 'I told ya so'.

BTW---drilling our own oil costs $80/barrel and isn't cost effective. You should research the aftermath of the oil embargo during Carter's years. The oil companies decided to 'drill baby drill' but lost millions. THey won't make that mistake again.

Brazil is using sugar cane to power their cars. SUre, it's a good solution, but they are cutting down their rainforest to do it. I think there is a better solution.

Just wait for better batteries that can hold a charge. We are almost there (my bf is in robotics and he is doing a lot recently in this and the solar field).

Again all this praise for the Dems and how the Republicans have screwed it up for 4 years. Let me reiterate: 2 years ago the Dems took over Congress and PRESTO, my business has been declining ever since. Did the Republicans do it? Nah. Thank God for the Dems!

I drive about 300 miles per month (I work from home) and unfortunately, my bf is a Republican, so we traded in my Sentra for an M35 (gas guzzler, IMO, but he just could not turn it down to the incredible 30% off) and I am stuck with a Forerunner since we need it for camping. Having said that, when the SUV is paid off (Feb), I will buy a more appropriate car.

Assuming most campers do not camp in their backyards, how will campers recharge their vehicle batteries? I don't recall having electricity available when my family went camping. Will you park your new battery- powered vehicle in a space at an RV park?

I don't understand why they are not putting alternators/generators on electric vehicles it seems this would solve the charging issue. your car or suv does not go very far when it's alternator dies? The oil companies AND opec learned from the past not to increase prodution too much as over supply killed prices. electric cars are very do-able if they would shift some money their way. It doesn't mean you have to abandon all gasoline cars/suv's but you could have both.

the dems or repub`s have nothing to do with the falling gas prices, that is due to several other veribles, in a nut shell the "Economy". when you dont use gas the price of oil goes down, in part it was the speculators that drove oil up to $147 a barl. causing $4 + fuel

yes we must drill because oil will go back up without a doubt,, we must become indipendent, and new drilling is not the only answer, but a good start, first we can raise prodution from the fields we currently have,

every time forgein countries hear we are going to altenitive energies, the cost of oil comes down, then we put it all on the back burner, and in a couple of years or less we will regret it again.

by the way Aks Saudi`s and OPEC want oil high priced how do you think they survive. they will lower production and fuel will go back up, because they know we have to depend on them,, if we dont move forward on our own independacie

I agree, but if you look at a chart of drilling verses the price of oil back in the 70's (seach "WTRG economics")you will see that oil drilling rigs exploded in numbers which caused oil prices to plummet and the oil companies suffered from this. they learned NOT to over drill when there is NOT a shortage and there hasn't been a shortage. The I.E.A and the saudi's and the CEO of exxon said in 2006 that they could not find anyone who was having problems buying as much oil as they wanted. The C.F.T.C. is supposed to monitor commodities for price manipulation, they are under senate control and stood by and did NOTHING as oil made it's largest climb. Unfortunatly the only way to get oil companies to invest in something that will cause their product prices to drop is offer them benefits or tax breaks or nationalize it which is socialism but we there anyway so what the H#@&.

the 70`s is not like today! we have now had a taste of where oil can go, and $4+ was not the top, people changed there driving habbits at $3.50, we need to stop putting alturnitives on hold when fuel is low and "affordable", they say drilling now wont help for 10 years, well they said that 10 years ago too, so we did`ent do it. so i guess this time in ten years from now we will say OH Crap should of would of! when oil is at $175 - 200- 300 a barl.

its the same cycle every ten years when will we learn, the only reason oil is down now is because of the Economy veribles, by 2010 we will be past that and oil will be on the way back up again, if we dont proceed with alturnitives, and alturnitives is not just drill drill drill.

think of alturnitive as self dependent from forgien nations to energy survival. its estamated that all oil at current rate of 30 bill barl`s a year world wide, oil will be gone around Yr 2040, I hope we are ready for that, if thats true I would say that around 2030 oil will be a presiouse commodity and worth more then gold. thats only 21 years away.

I sorry but it was the dollar devaluing and traders and a lack of doing their job (the oversight commitee) that caused oil to hit $147 a barrel. This was all u.s. controlled the economy was the excuse the traders used to run the price up. I am totally for aternative energy especially electric cars, what they need is alternators on them to keep the batteries recharged your car won't go very far without an alternator even if the tank is full. The corn growers kept saying that only 5% of the corn was going to ethanol but it to was blamed for food shortages . where are these shortages now? You don't hear about them because it didn't exist in the first place. We don't need to choose one over the other you can have both
