Do they actually realize what will happen if they give us a "GAS TAX HOLIDAY!!"

By law, the gas tax money has to be spent on the roads.   Before you jump all over me and say it's not... it is!   Whether it happens in real life or not, whether we have good roads or not, that money is allocated to state and local agencies that take care of our roadways, freeways and anything related to roads.    Next, we will hear about how the price of maintaining those roads is sky high and their budget is off by millions of dollars that they didn't collect.  So, like in any situation in life, when you rob Peter to pay Paul, you will eventually have to pay Peter back.

Secondly,  the next thing that will happen is that gas prices will magically decrease by what? 30 cents???  From there, the price will jump 10 cents at a time until we are back up to $3.50 a gallon anyway.  THEN, peoples, in September the gas tax holiday will be over and BOOM, we are over $4 overnight.

There is no free lunch!  Driving is a privelage, not a right.   But people always say... oh they've been paying $6.00 a gallon in Europe for years... yes that's true, however they have a mass transit system and not everyone drives a car.

Complaining about not having money???   Stop eating at Taco Bell and pack a PBJ.  Stop shopping every fricken day at WalMart and use what you have.  You are not personally repsonsible for keeping Verizon or Sprint Cell Phone companies in business.  Borrow books from the library!

Start thinking with what the Good Lord gave you, pick yourself up by your boot straps and stop yer whinning!

gas will continue to rise to a point where the gas companies see a measurable descrease in demand for fuel. Then they will slowly back the fuel back down to the point where people are comfortable paying.

I would image gas in America will be between $3-$4 for good. Anything over than and people will drastically start reducing usage which will cut into profits. It is a balancing act.

and whats the big difference between $3 and $5? For 15 gallons it's $30. Sounds like a lot but if you fill up once a week that is a mesely extra $4 and some change a day. That is truly a gourmet coffee or some snacks during the day.

If people will pay $5 for coffee and $2 for water, etc they will have no problem with $5 gas

I really don't understand the 'tax holiday'-the lost revenue will have to be made up from somewhere else, won't it?

Exactly my point. Either way we are gonna have to pay for it. The legislators will be whining that they have no money left.

KCMO- they can just do what the federal government does for everything, BORROW IT! We're over $9 trillion in debt at the federal level and nobody seems to care, so why don't the states catch up?

Everyone wants something for free. Let's just vote for prices to be cheaper, and they will be!

Why not just vote that we all make $100.00 per hour, and gas is $1.00 per gallon!

Economics - supply and demand - cannot be legislated.

Put price caps on and there will be shortages. companies will go out of business, lay people off, 401ks will go down...

The socialist mantra:

BIG OIL=BAD
BIG INSURANCE=BAD
BIG TOBACCO=BAD

BIG GOVERNMENT? well that's OK I guess.
