The local media covered the Muslim protest on the Plaza (1-1-09) protesting the current conflict/war between Israelis and Hamas occurring along the Gaza-Strip. The protesters (approximately 150) were (according to the report) organized by the Muslim American Society to bring attention to the conflict/war and the alleged disproportionate death toll to Palestinian civilians. Protesters chanted: “Stop the killing, stop the crime, long live Palestine.” From media interviews of a couple of protesters it appears they want the US to intercede and force Israel to stop the aerial bombing. I found this interesting seeing as how similar groups have protested in the past outraged by US involvement in Palestinian affairs when the US has supported Israel. It seems they only want Israel to stop the bombing while Hamas continues its rocket attacks on Israeli civilians.

From a political blog titled: Rosco Was Right…Sort Of, by Nemokc, I understand the conflict and how it has been going on for decades and how the Palestinians feel. But Hamas is an internationally recognized terrorist organization that positions itself among the Palestinian civilian population, using them basically as shields to dissuade retaliatory attacks for the rockets it lobs into Israel daily. I really don’t know how these Muslims can expect US support for Hamas. As I recall it has been radical Muslims who have attacked US targets here and around the world killing Americans. I don’t ever recall hearing of an Israeli suicide bomber or of Israelis flying planes into US buildings.

This protest on the Plaza, and elsewhere, serves no purpose other than to try to draw the US people into the conflict, and an attempt to stir up emotions in the US and foster hatred toward Israel and Jews in general as if we didn’t have enough hatred already. If these people want to protest, then let them go back to their own country where their voices have a much better chance of being heard and of bring about a cease fire, if that is truly their intent.

I find it personally offensive that this Muslim group would have the blatant audacity to ask support from the US for Hamas and other Muslim terrorist groups who have openedly called for the death of Americans, and when Hamas receives military training, weapons and financial support from Iran who has sent weapons and insurgents into Iraq to kill American soldiers. Both Hamas and Iran’s leadership have called for Israel to be wiped off the map. How is anyone expected to rationally negotiate with such irrational people?

Jordan, not all financing comes from Iran.
Opening statements at the Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse in downtown Dallas began Sept. 22. Over the past two months, prosecutors attempted to prove that five former charity organizers used Holy Land, once the largest Muslim charity in the U.S., to funnel an estimated $60 million to the militant group — most of it before 1995.

Israel has big guns and can take of the problem, Hamas should have thought of the results from their actions.
It really gets me how terrorist are big chickens. I read the story on "Rayan" the Hamas strongarm and Israel dropped a one ton bomb on his place. In the story it stated that he sent two of his sons on suicide missions, and the militants have gone into hiding. The people that stir the Sh-t up in the first place go into hiding or send their sons on suicide missions, go figure.

Given the above case of the Muslim organization, and the sudden baloon of Muslims in the US and possibily a Muslim President, hum, got any predictions?

I’m not sure that I buy into Obama being a Muslim. He may have some Muslim experience, possibly even sympathies. But there is a difference between radicalize Muslims and other Muslims, although it difficult to sort them out. But the same is true between radical Christian believers and regular Christians. I’m really more concerned about his liberal beliefs than his Muslim beliefs.

As to my prediction? I believe we will have another terrorist attack, or group of attacks right here in the US. Whatever Obama’s beliefs, terrorist will test his presidency to see how he and his administration react and to re-legitimize themselves as a threat in the terrorist world. To what degree they will be successful will depend on how the president and a democratic congress views national security.

I think we should round up and deport all of the M&Ms (Muslims & Mexicans).

Jstol, I find offense to that...My cousin is married to a Mexican who is here legally, he works at an Applebees in Olathe and he's pretty high up on the totem pole. He is actually a very mature guy and a very good father to his 2 year old daughter. I take class with a Muslim instructor named Mazen Akkam who is a very intelligent man who is as concerned about data and information security as the government.

Put simply, just because one muslim or mexican is bad does not mean they are all bad. I learned never to judge people like that. I learned to judge people individually and judge them based on how they treat me and my friends. If they are beefing with another country, that is none of my business.

America is a place to come to, assimilate, and become an American. Those who force their women to wear rags on their head and cover their face and who protest on behalf of terrorists have no business being here nor do those who refuse to learn the language and the customs.

There is an old saying - "when in Rome do as the Romans do".

What about the children? some might say. Send them back as well. That's where they belong.

jstol, so you feel that if they come here, they should give up all their own traditions and customs and instead adopt the "american" way of life? You think that jews should get rid of their skullcaps and whatnot and adopt "american" religions?

Its pathetic that you Americans still think you have the right to police the world. Well, jstol, how about we deport every person of European descent and let the Native Americans have their land back?

By the way, those head scarves and veils and whatnot are part of Islam, and since every American is granted the freedom of religion (freedom to worship any God they please and freedom to practice any religion they see fit), your idea would be stripping them of that right.

Thanks to the freedom of religion, any American can practice Catholicism, Scientology, Buddhism, Mormonism, Christianity, Judaism, or even Islam.

The rocket attacks on southern Israel have been going on for some time now, Hammas broke the cease fire, and though Israel should have use more of a measured response the attack was not unwarranted, in fact it was deserved. The Palestinians in Gaza chose Hammas to represent them, it seem simple half way around the world if the Palestinians want the attacks to stop, they need to stop hiding the rocket squads. By hiding the rocket squads they are complicit in the attacks, on the news you keep hearing the phrase innocent civilians, those innocent civilians need only to pick up the phone and call in the location of the rocket squads and it would be over quick.

Mnaines, you’re a hypocrite. Time and time again you criticize and condemn police officers, lumping them all together the same as you do anyone that offends you. I personally find it difficult to believe that you have any friends that are electronically generated.

I didn't like it when Us Irish Catholics were buying guns for the Irish Republican army and marching in the streets of major US cities in support of the Northern Irish rebels. But, even though the Brits suffered bombings in London, they never sent in their Air force to kill thousands of innocent Northern Irish. But, even though the "troubles" lasted for generations, men of good will established a peace in that area. May be there is a lesson in that experience for the Mid East. Oh, and we didn't throw the Irish Catholics out of the country because some of them supported the IRA with money, and all of them were sympathizers to their people in the old country.

It's time America stays out of it.Israel needs to go ahead and stand up to hamas and get rid of the threat by any means necessary. If that requires all out war then go for it.Hamas commits acts of terrorism against Israel, that gives Israel every right to destroy hamas in every facet they exist.Just like with the US and terrorists BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!You cannot be concerned with collateral damage, do what you have to and get it over.Kill every radical religous leader that preaches Jihad destroy every mosque when it's full of crazy terrorists worshipers and get these religous wars over with. They take up more resources and time than they are worth. All these people who are dieing because of disagreements over religion isn't worth it.

I wouldn't mind going, as soon as the protestors go. I mean, if you're that vocal, surely you wouldn't mind going yourself and putting your patriotism where your mouth is, would you? It's so easy in this country to bring up problems. Why is it that no one has solutions? If you're opposed to something going on in the Middle East, which ever side you're on, then go there and do something about it. I'll be right there with you then.

Jeepster4,

You draw an interesting analogy. It’s very easy to be open, or liberal, minded about what is happening to someone else. Things are never as simple as they may appear when examined from a great distance and a place of safety. I think if you lived in Israel where you had missiles being lobed into your cities day after day for 8-years you might get a little testy too. Look what we did after only four planes were used as missiles against our country on 9/11. How England chose to deal with the IRA was their choice. Which, by the way, was not as civil as you make it appear.

Israel sent in flyers and even had their intelligence service call people in Gaza and inform them of the pending air strikes to avoid innocent causalities. Hamas has chosen to use innocent people as shields. This is their war. We don’t like it when other countries try to tell us how we should defend our homeland, or what is or is not an appropriate response. Wars in the Middle East have been going on for decades if not centuries. This goes beyond mere political or religious differences. Were talking about a group of people who is determined to totally annihilate another. Wait until we have another attack on our soil and tell us how you feel.

For once I agree with you JSTOL3 on your statement about these women who wear the "head coverings". Its AMERICA. Do what you want in your house or your chruch. But if you want to be part of AMERICA, you will do like we do! Period. Also, have you seen how the men that are married to these women bossthem around? Again, ITS AMERICA. American women dont and wont put up with this kind of treatment.

Imatt,

The problem is that these women aren’t Americans. They may have taken up residency here, but they, like their husbands and other relatives have no intent or desire to be part of the American culture. That’s the problem.

I sat on the check stand of a Kroger store with a 38 in my lap all night on Prospect avenue, while the east side experienced rioting after Martin Luther King was assassinated. People died in Kansas City that night in the Summer of 1967. Thinking that there is lessons to be learned from the past is not a "Liberal" idea, but a simple statement of fact.

What the plaza protesters won't outright say is that the Palistenians do not want a truce. The Middle east Islam preaches to KILL the jews. They want to deny not only Isreal to exist, but the jewish people. There is no middle ground on that issue. If Islam had it thier way they would hunt down and kill every jewish man, woman, and child in the world. I know its hard to wrap your mind around but it is very true. This religion of Islam is every bit if not more EVIL than Hitlers Nazi Germany. Any Muslim country would gladly give the Pali's weapons to use against Isreal, money or food, well that's something else. I have no pity for palistien. If I was Isreal the Gaza strip would never be in Palistinian control ever again. That's what they get for pick'n a fight.
