10 Differences between Conservatives And Liberals

Conservatives and liberals approach almost every issue with completely different philosophies, underlying assumptions, and methods. That's why it's so hard to find genuine compromise between conservatism and liberalism -- because not only are liberals almost always wrong, their solutions almost always make things worse.

With that in mind, let me take a few moments to explain some of the key differences between liberals and conservative to you.

Bonus) Conservatives believe that judges should act like umpires instead of legislating from the bench. That means that judges should determine whether laws are permissible under the Constitution and settle debates about the meaning of laws, not impose their will based on their ideological leanings. Liberals view judges as a backdoor method of getting unpopular left-leaning legislation passed. They don't want umpires, they want political partisans in black robes who will side with them first and then come up with a rationale to explain it.

10) Conservatives believe that individual Americans have a right to defend themselves and their families with guns and that right cannot be taken away by any method short of a Constitutional Amendment, which conservatives would oppose. Liberals believe by taking arms away from law abiding citizens, they can prevent criminals, who aren't going to abide by gun control laws, from using guns in the commission of crimes.

9) Conservatives believe that we should live in a color blind society where every individual is judged on the content of his character and the merits of his actions. On the other hand, liberals believe that it's ok to discriminate based on race as long as it primarily benefits minority groups.

8) Conservatives are capitalists and believe that entrepreneurs who amass great wealth through their own efforts are good for the country and shouldn't be punished for being successful. Liberals are socialists who view successful business owners as people who cheated the system somehow or got lucky. That's why they don't respect high achievers and see them as little more than piggy banks for their programs.

7) Conservatives believe that abortion ends the life of an innocent child and since we believe that infanticide is wrong, we oppose abortion. Most liberals, despite what they'll tell you, believe that abortion ends the life of an innocent child, but they prefer killing the baby to inconveniencing the mother.

6) Conservatives believe in confronting and defeating enemies of the United States before they can harm American citizens. Liberals believe in using law enforcement measures to deal with terrorism, which means that they feel we should allow terrorists to train, plan, and actually attempt to kill Americans before we try to arrest them -- as if you can just send the police around to pick up a terrorist mastermind hiding in Iran or the wilds of Pakistan.

5) Conservatives, but not necessarily Republicans (which is unfortunate), believe it's vitally important to the future of the country to reduce the size of government, keep taxes low, balance the budget, and get this country out of debt. Liberals, and Democrats for that matter, believe in big government, high taxes, and they have never met a new spending program they didn't like, whether we will have to go into debt to pay for it or not.

4) Conservatives believe that government, by its very nature, tends to be inefficient, incompetent, wasteful, and power hungry. That's why we believe that the government that governs least, governs best. Liberals think that the solution to every problem is another government program. Even when those new programs create new problems, often worse than the ones that were being fixed in the first place, the solution is always....you guessed it, another government program.

3) Conservatives are patriotic, believe that America is a great nation, and are primarily interested in looking out for the good of the country. That's why we believe in "American exceptionalism" and "America first." Liberals are internationalists who are more concerned about what Europeans think of us and staying in the good graces of the corrupt bureaucrats who control the UN than looking out for the best interests of this nation.

2) Conservatives, most of them anyway, believe in God and think that the Constitution has been twisted by liberal judges to illegitimately try to purge Christianity from the public square. We also believe, most of us anyway, that this country has been successful in large part because it is a good, Christian nation and if our country ever turns away from the Lord, it will cease to prosper. Liberals, most of them anyway, are hostile to Christianity. That's why, whether you're talking about a school play at Christmas time, a judge putting the Ten Commandments on the wall of his court, or a store employee saying "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays," liberals are dedicated to driving reminders of Christianity from polite society.

1) Conservatives believe in pursuing policies because they're pragmatic and because they work. Liberals believe in pursuing policies because they're "nice" and make them feel good. Whether the policies they're advocating actually work or not is of secondary importance to them.

As Reagan used to say, "Our well meaning liberal friends". I think thats true,thier idealism gets in the way of practicality amd prgamatism. If thier programs worked and didnt inflate government beyond the intent of the Founding fathers,you may be able to persuade me otherwise. We STILL have a war on poverty,despite spending trillions to combat that income gap. If liberalism works,after ALL the money we have thrown at "poblems" and inequalities-WHY DO WE STILL DEBATE THE SAME"SHORTCOMMINGS" OF AMERICA EVERY ELECTION CYCLE? its not like liberalism hasnt been tried.

OEL: What exactly is an "attack"? A disagreement? A difference of opinion? The way we see the world as john has expressed?Attack? Come on,grow up and lighten up! You see thats yet another thing you libs do,You acuse people that speak thier mind while excercising free speech of "attacking" simply because it doesnt follow your beliefs.This is a mischaracterization of what we are doing and borders on a facist agenda to categorize disent as such that would need to be stifled. Reread this post and the comments and give me a solid example of an "attack" and explain how it can be categorized as such?

Also,because I believe in God and call myself a Christian doesnt mean I dont have opinions about my government,its policies and criticisms of its failings...does it? Or are you trying another tactic to make my opinions sound unjustified and therefore laying the groundwork to have it stifled?Why didnt you explain an opposing view of johns very realistic/fair assesment of the political differences of the two major philosophies that influence our government? Was it easier to make a "passive agressive attack" on our religious status?Just curious?

Fortunately OEL, Conservatives don't need a liberal translator to tell us what we've said. Most people prefer the plain truth to liberal spin. Maybe that's why the NYTimes is going broke while Rush Limbaugh just keeps getting a bigger audience. Oh well, maybe if you're lucky, they'll reinstitute the "fairness doctrine" to shut him up too. Until then all you can do is whine.
Neither do Christians need a liberal referree to dictate what is to be allowed on Christmas. Who appointed you Pope?

What irony! A self-avowed communist exploiting Christmas for the politically correct purpose of silencing an opposing political viewpoint.

You guys argue my position better than I can. As I said, you call yourselves "Christian," yet stoop to such levels on Christmas. You wrote this blog at 7:59 AM on Christmas. Was it the first thing you did today? I could even understand 11 PM, as the day was nearly over, but early Christmas morning?

WC, I will admit that, aside from your nail comment, your posts here have not really been hypocritical. Even you have to admit this blog may be inappropriate for Christmas.

Argue your position? And what exactly IS your position, OEL? I guess that's the point exactly. You don't seem to have a position - unless its just another bafoonish attempt at a personal attack. Put up, or shut up, but don't expect anyone to be cowed by your contrived political correctness. Surely you aren't going to try the "You're not being Christian enough" liberal nonsense argument. No one believes you are qualified to stand in judgement of anyone else's UN-Christian behavior, but then, I've never heard you express much of anything but a condescending and elusive description of what Marxism isn't. Not exactly convincing bona fides.
Stating a political view is neither an "attack" nor "stooping to such a level". It is an opinion, nothing more, nothing less. I happen to agree with the post and do not see the connection to Christmas that you do. If you have a problem with the date, try to think of it as John's Christmas gift to you, OEL. If you don't agree with him, perhaps you might deign to grace us with YOUR lofty opinion in response to his post.

Or would that take more intelectual courage than a diversionary personal attack?

Alright, have it your way. But one thing is certain: I waited until Christmas was over to post this. I did not preach Christianity then write it first-thing Christmas morning.

1) Conservatives do not concern themselves with the general population, only those with influence and money; it is a sycophant syndrome. Liberals concern themselves with the well-being of all peoples, regardless of economic standing or country.

2) Conservatives twist the constitution to pull God into politics, quite to the contrary of the founders. If the founders wanted God in government, the Constitution would have stated so rather than giving the people religious freedom. Liberals attempt to keep the two separate, as the founders wanted. Conservatives will also attempt to refer to themselves as 'Christian' but prove otherwise through their actions and words.

3) Conservatives will follow whatever their leader tells them in order to appear patriotic. As long as the country is able to attack without justification, the rights of the citizens are irrelevant. Liberals will speak up when the country is in the wrong.

4) Conservatives claim to support limited government but always increase the size of the government and decrease the rights of the people at every opportunity. Democrats do the same. Liberals believe the people should control themselves.

5) Conservatives want lower taxes as long as you are of the upper-class. Liberals tax those who can afford pay.

6) Conservatives believe in pre-emptive attacks, even when the reason behind the attack is never found. Liberals know war is a res

7) While conservatives claim to disapprove of abortion, they are more than willing to spank or switch their children or kill adults and those of other nations. Liberals see violence as a conservative flaw.

8) Conservatives are capitalists and believe anyone who is not of the upper-class is a slacker, even if they were never able to afford college, their parents were on drugs or some other obstacle stood in their path. Liberals know people should be aided from time to time to ensure they are able to aid society later. Liberals also know that it is capitalism which restricts the ability of citizens to traverse class divides.

9) Conservatives disagree with racism as long as the person is not Arab, Black, Hispanic, Chinese, Indian, Native American, French, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist or educated. Liberals disagree with racism.

10) Conservatives support gun rights as a means of protection and are more than willing to use them to undermine democracy. Liberals support democracy.

11) Conservatives do not believe in judges who legislate from the bench, unless it is in reference to gun-toting, abortion or any other issue they are concerned with. Democrats are the same way. Liberals do not believe judges should legislate from the bench unless it prevents discrimination.

1.Arguably 50% of our population is conservative(based on election results of the past 15 years),so Im to believe that half of the country has access to money or special influence? Almost half of the nation is "wealthy"? Based on facts,your first assertion doesnt hold water!Contrary to repeated assertions,Obama dint win a "landslide" election-it was around 52% to 48%-hmm-there sure are a lot of "conservatives out there,could they ALL be part of an "afluent"conspiracy to keep the poor in check?

2. Conservatives only wish to have the constitution enforced as it was written. "free expression" of ALL religions. We dont but into the agenda of the left to have all religion restricted from public expression.This is a bastardization of the constituion promoted by liberals that seek to have all representations of faith deemed unconstitutional.it just so happens that Christianity is the target of choice becaue they feel threatened and feel they could promote thier agenda more easily if it werent for those damned bible thumpers.

3.Your half right on this one. GW Bush calls himself a "conservative,as does MCcain and Schwartenegger but they do not govern as conservatives.Bush is the only "conservative" to inflate government but he has lost sight of his fiscal responsibility. perhaps thia was his way of being a uniter,but a lot of good it has done him.The libs still hate him and he has alienated TRUE conservatives.How can you condemn a man for implementing policies YOU believe in?......Disgraceful!

Conservatives have the ability to see beyong party lines when it comes to our countries safety.We were sceptical when Clinton deployed more often than any other President in history but didnt rake him over the coals and call him a war monger and liar out of respect ofr the troops and giving our coammander in Chief the ebenfit of the doubt.The left gave Clinton a pass on his nation building adventures as did most of the right,in the name of respect of our troops and we believed some good could be achieved. There were far more national security concernes eliminated with the deposition of Saddam than we ever achieved in Kosovo,Rawanda,Bosnia or Serbia.We didnt find WND,only ONE of the many dangers Saddam had the potential to utilize in his region and on the world.He funded terrorist that could have attacked us,he had actively persued WMD and had a hsitory of USING them on his own people,he tried to kill a former US President and he ran a brutal dictatorship that enslaved and persecuted millions of innocent Iraqis.We made the mistake of letting Hitler arm himself in the 30s,why make the same mistake in the 21st century with a man of equal depravity bent on the anialation of Jews and regional ,if not world domination?

Sorry OEL,I guess conservatives are smart enough to understand our tax code and realize that the bottom 40% dont need a tax cut because not only do they NOT PAY ANY INCOME TAX THEY ACTUALLY GET EXTRA MONEY BACK!Thats right,look it up we GIVE then money!The top 10%, The "rich" pay MOST of our tax bill for us! Its a fact-get used to the reality of economics!They ALREADY pay thier fair share and more.You wonder why people set up offshore acounts and move businesses to other countries? Theres your answer! we have abused the producers in this country to a point that we had better give them a break or THEY WONT STAY HERE IN THIS OPPRESSIVE SYSTEM THAT CONTINUES TO OVERTAX THE RICH TO FUND FAILED LIBERAL PROGRAMS!After ALL the trillions weve spent,why isnt it any better?Can you say ,with a staright face that these government programs work? Can you at least admit that the rich pay for the poors tax bill AND give them extra every year?....I doubt you will be that honest but show me the proof that Im wrong!!!!!!!!!!!Show where the poor are taxed??????Shw we the contribution in federal tax dollars recieved by the bottom 40% of earners in this country? 6.As john says,liberals want to waith until there are thousands of DEAD PEOPLE before we act to punish those that wish us harm.Think about that for a second. You are willing to let THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DIE BEFORE YOU ACT!!!!WOW!!!! Let me ask you,lets say you knew somone was going to kill your most beloved person on the planet and you could stop it but you had to tapp the guys phone or you had to kill him yourself to stop him.....would you do it? or let them kill your wife?Child?Mom?Friend?

If can equate a terrorist or killer to an innocent unborn chil that didnt ask to be concieved you have issues!I personally believe there are but a VERY FEW situations in which an abortion may be decision between a woman her doctor and her God(REAL health risk to mother,RAPE and incest)but this BS equivelence made by the left to try to paint us as a double standard is rediculous. Who would you rather fight for the unborn child that has NEVER done anything to anyone or the terroist that seeks to kill thousands or the man that has made the CHOICE to take anothers life?Does this really make sense to you?????????????
8.I refer you to #1. I will say that yur statement implies that we have no schlarship programs in this country-We have millions of them. Your statement also implies that we dont have government grants for education.BTW: There was another study completed this year that shows conservative STILL are more benevolent than liberals by a signifgant margin.Your thoery is proven wrong year fater year!

9.As john stated,liberals are fine with making decsions based on race-which IS the definition of racism. Conservatives actually believe ALL men are equal and there is no need to discount them by bending the rules.This is in essence saying "Hey,we know you arent good enough so vote for me and I will pull some strings".WE actually see them as our equals-we work side by side with monorities everydat and see thier value.Unfortuantly,because of liberal racist rhetoric and signifigant portion of minorites see themselves as inferior(because thats what liberals tell them-You cant make it without us democrats)and succumb to this defeatist mindset. I have made hiring and firing decisions most of my life and I take them seriously and would hire ANYONE capable of doing the best job,no matter what color thier skin is.Conservatives like to achieve and become sucessful,we know that we can do that along side a hard working,intelligent black man as well as a white man.Im going to make my decision,ALWAYS, based on what the end result is likely to be-skin color doesnt cross my mind!

One last comment on #9: Like conservatives would sit around and say,Damn,I interviewed a guy today with tons of experience,I think he could have been the best employee if ever came across,he was well groomed,articulate knew his job inside and out but I couldnt hire him-he was black!LMAO-this doesnt happen. If it does its few and far between.People make decisions based on performance,qualifications and abilities BECAUSE THEY WANT TO SUCEED!!!!!!!!
10.We support gun right because it is the 2nd ammendment to our constitution. we understand that our forefathers were telling us AND OUR GOVERNMENT that an armed citizenry is the BEST defense against a tyrannical government. Why dont you get that? Explain to me how we use our arms to undermine democracy when the right to bear arms is the last line of defense OF democracy?
11. I will concede that your argumant may be true-both sides want judges to legislate your way.The problem with your argument is,as john says,we believe in the constitution...guns rights are a no brainer but LIBERAL judges have usurped gun rights THROUGH legislating from the bench,LIBERAL judges have usurped the rights of unborn children to LIVE,liberal judges have usurped the constitution at every turn. Obama himself in an interview,openly stated the lefts need to change the constituion through the judiciary.This has long been a tactic of the left and you guys have taken away many rights by doing so.

You only saw and expression of viewpoint! your assertion was a naked attempt to classify FREE SPEECH as hateful because you disagree with it( another liberal standby). You are the true facist,you will employ any tactic you deem necessary to try to stifle opposing views and promote your agenda. You believe that stealing is acceptable to achieve your goals,you believe that stifleing spech you dont agree with is acceptable.You call yourself "open eyed" but you are nothing more than the traditional communist that will kill dessenter by the millions that dont agrre and cant be converted. Thats where we differ, I happen to believe in our constitution and believe in ALL of our rights to speak freely-not just poeple that gree with me!
