Need folks opinion.

If you were going to buy a new .45ACP 1911 style gun.

Which manufacture would you choose?

I am really leaning towards a Kimber, but they are expensive. There are several gun discussion boards that speak of Kimber's jamming.

What is you favorite hand gun?

Whose is the most accurate?

My favorite gun is a Kahr PM9 9 mm. Small and reliable. Built for conceal and carry.

A Kimber .45 ACP is a fine weapon. A .45 of any make is a real stopper, particularly in a car jacking scenario, and there are models which carry 10 rounds. Small enough for conceal and carry. I haven't heard anything about them jamming, many police departments rely on Kimber as their weapon of choice. Same with the Glocks. I would have to qualify the jamming claims on them.

Czech, (check) out the CZ 97b. It is a .45 ACP fairly large gun with minimum recoil. It is a Czech gun. Check out their website, one of them goes on to say that they ran over 60,000 rounds through them without it ever jamming. External hammer, thumb safety.

Accuracy.............you joking? They go where you point them. Breathe while you pull the trigger you shot may go up, pull instead of squeeze and it may go down. Wrap you trigger finger the wrong way around it and it's going sideways-----which side, who knows!!

It's like asking which basketball goes in the hoop the best. Come on.

Take Patricia Stoneking's conceal and carry or close tactical weapons training at the Bullet Hole in OP. Even if you live in Mo. it's worth the money.

Ummmmm....couldn't help but notice your photo of the Kimber. Is that yours? I think that's real close to what I'm looking for.

They had one for sale at the gun show @ 115th $ Metcalf yesterday for $1135.00

you people need to know, you dont need a bazoka to take someone out. A 308 will do the trick. Hollow point. Stop being a John Wayne.

mpvan, yep the Kimber seems to be a choice gun for sure. Thanks for the info, I'll check out the chech gun. Seeing how I am 1/2 Chech & love Koliache.
That is a picture of a 5" Kimber Raptor, not mine yet. I am still trying to decide. $1135 would be a good deal, MSRP is $1595, I have seen for $1300.
It is about $600 more than I really want to spend.

Well yes & no. My goal is to be able to place 8 rounds in a 3" circle @ 25yards. There has not been many guns I have tried that are capable. Springfield is another nice model, just not as accurate.

bebozo, I don't see many .308 chamber's in handguns, heck I am not even sure of which one does use a .308.
9MM, .357, .40 S&W, .45 ACP are most.

BTW, a 380 is just a 9mm short. I carry one on my person and one in each truck. They are compact and easily concealed. A 308 is a deer rifle. LOL

Of course it is rosco, .380 = 9mm (roughly).

Kimber does make some mighty nice weapons. I have always thought .45 was over rated though. I carried one in the nat'l guard... m1911 of course. I think a 9mm is under powered, a .45 is a bit over powered (and a very slow round), so I compromised and went with the .40.

There is an old saying.... don't ever buy a handgun that doesn't start with the number 4 LOL

But I suppose it's all in how it feels to you. Find the ones you like, in your price range. Then go up to the bullet hole, ask them to get them out, hold them, think up names for them, then just say what the hell, and buy the one that feels the best.

Works for women, it should work for guns.

Thanks for the link Vision.

I have considered the M&P, will shoot one this weekend. Will post what I think about it.

Appreciate the info rosco, I don't claim to know. I thought that was just a rifle round.

I have a S&W .40 now, I am just looking to upgrade some.
Last Thursday I shot a Kimber at the Bullet Hole. Not only have I never shot it before, I haven't shot a .45 in a long while.
First 6 rounds in a 3" circle @ 15yrds. My buddy picks it up & comes very close to doing exactly the same thing. I tried using the .40, no where near the same. Tried a Baretta 92, same as the S&W, not bad, but nothing like the Kimber.

My goal now though is to check out the feel & shoot a Springfield a S&W M&P, maybe a Colt too.
