WATERBURY, Vt. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman."PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says.PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human MilkPETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health. SURVEYDo you think Ben and Jerry's should use human milk in its ice cream?Yes No "The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk.""We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child," said a spokesperson for Ben and Jerry's.Read PETA's letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield September 23, 2008 Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, CofoundersBen & Jerry's Homemade Inc. Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield, On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'd like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry's.Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers-and cows-would reap the benefits.Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease-America's number one cause of death.Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup. And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around. The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Tracy Reiman Executive Vice President

Remember when you turned a test paper in at school and you were given it back after it was graded? After looking at your grade, you looked at what you missed or got wrong. If you were confused, you took it to your teacher (or parent) and asked for clarification. If you didn’t, your parents had something to look at to determine if there was a weakness in your understanding. I don’t know about you, but this exercise helped me remember the right answer for the future even though it didn’t help me with that particular grade. I also remember looking forward to getting my graded work back so I could verify what I thought I knew and identify what I did not get.
They don’t do that anymore (High School). The tests and work are graded and not returned. The grade is recorded and put on line. Actual test papers are destroyed and there is no confirmation of what answers were right or wrong for the student. I’m told they don’t return the tests because they will use them again next year and don’t want the next batch of students using them to cheat. Interesting. I would think that if they had 4-5 different tests, they could alternate them and still give the students their work back. No wonder our kids shrug when you ask them what answers they missed and if they understand why. It’s not information they are given or the school feels they need. Seems we are taking an important piece of learning away from them. Learning that is looks toward the future rather than the moment or past and we deny them access to it.

My daughter is joining a decoration committee and will help design and put up decorations at her school this year. The club will meet several times to work out the details based on a theme. The decorations will go up, but will be taken down right after first hour. The reason the decorations will not stay, even for 1 school day, is they are a distraction.
I don’t know about you, but isn’t that strange? If a school isn’t the right place for our children to see and experience the ideas and work of others, then where is that place?

Last night on the news it was reported that Wildwood is implementing a new ordinance to try to cut down on underage drinking. The report said that if there is a complaint about noise or a party the police will give a warning the first time they come out. The second time it’s a $1000 fine and the owner can be liable for the cost to have the police and whoever else is needed come out. Ok, first off, I do not believe in underage drinking so I’m not against them trying to stop it.
What I don’t get is how it acceptable and legal to charge for a service that you are already paid to have. Aren’t the taxes (and fines) we pay for services provided by things like public school, police, and fire departments? Don’t the police services include maintaining control and issuing tickets, etc?
So how can the police in Wildwood expect more compensation for doing what we already pay them to do? Isn’t that double payment for the same service? I expect them to enforce the law, investigate crime, make arrests, and show up when needed for what I already pay them. The fine is the punishment for breaking the law, so they are already recouping some money. Also, if we have to pay again when its provided, shouldn’t we have some say in how they provide that service?
Maybe our taxes only go to having the police around and for visual comfort. In that case, I rather pay per need, like with a doctor, cause I don’t care about seeing, not thrilled with their service level, and cant afford to keep them on retainer.
Maybe I should tell my customers that pay me to assist them, if I actually assist them, I will have to charge them for actually doing it.

THOSE BORN 1920-1979
READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE---VERY WELL STATED
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints..
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NO T from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day..And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good .
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!
The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

Ever wonder if we have lost the ability to identify or allow ourselves our entire range of emotions? Doesn’t it seem we always resort to or override with anger when we are sad, afraid or unpleasantly surprised? Is it because anger is easier to deal with or because feeling hostile and vengeful makes us think we are courageous and strong? What I mean is, when you feel disappointed, do you recognize you are sad and act accordingly or do you interpret it as torment and resentment and end up angry? When you’re feeling guilty, do you pick a fight to distract yourself from being sad and allow anger to take over? When something horrible happens do you feel surprise, anguish, sympathy, shock, dread, in addition to disgust and outrage? Do you focus on someone to blame and allow your anger toward that person to override those other feelings? What about when someone maliciously insults or offends you, do you feel rejected, insecure, regret, shame, or hurt? Or do you choose not to acknowledge those feelings and go straight to the comfort of being angry?
Emotions are responses to our feelings and are generally felt below the belly button and above the neck. They tell us when something is important to us, so it makes sense we would want to accurately identify them. We have a vast number of emotions, but I have listed below 6 primary ones with their secondary and tertiary emotions to show how they are associated. I just wanted to let people know that anger is not the result every bad feeling like fear or sadness, but it is its own emotion. So the next time you are suffering, disappointed, shamed, neglected, sympathetic, horrified, or nervous, you don’t have react as if your angry cause your not, your sad and afraid.

John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barak Obama were walking down a Washington DC street when they came upon a homeless man. John McCain gave the man his business card and told him to come to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the man.
Hillary was very impressed, so when they came upon another homeless person, she decided to help. She walked over to him and gave him directions to the welfare office. She then reached into John McCain’s pocket and got out $20. She kept $15 for her administrative fees and gave the homeless man $5.
When they came upon yet another homeless person, Barak told him to “have hope.. change is coming..” and gave him nothing.
Do you understand the difference?

Prejudice is a natural human emotion that comes from personal experiences. We are not allowed to act on our racial prejudices because it is illegal (discrimination) and considered racist, chauvinist, or a bigoted behavior. People are expected to recognize their biases within themselves and learn to ignore those biases in an effort to treat everyone fairly. Prejudice toward people fall into the following categories:
- The Halo effect – when you assign positive traits to a person because they are remind you of a familiar and liked person or group of people.
- The Mirror image – traits assigned to the person because they have a familiar background, personality, or appearance.
- The Reverse Halo effect – when negative traits are assigned to someone because they remind you of a person or a group of people you dislike.
There are many ways to discriminate. There is disparate treatment where one person or groups of people are treated differently in service, cost, or opportunity. Then there is overt discrimination where personal prejudices determine behavior “woman should not own their own businesses or only men should work on cars”.
My daughter told me the other day that in school, some kid’s phone went off and the teacher did nothing. A couple of weeks prior my daughters phone went off in the same class and her phone was taken away by the teacher and given detention. She says she was treated differently because the other kid was African American. She says the teacher is more tolerant of the AA kids in her class. She said the AA’s in her class are ignored when they behave badly, unless it’s something real big. Is it true? IDK, but she based her belief on observations that she described to me and her conclusion seemed more like a statement of acceptance than a complaint. If it is true, is the teacher a racist, reverse discriminator, just ignorant of her prejudices, or following unwritten, but understood policy? Does it matter if the teacher is AA or not? How do you think the teacher’s behavior impacts the kids she teaches?
Giving extra chances, additional help, or have race employment quota’s are all ways to keep down the race your trying to help. They are ways of saying “these people are not just different, they are lesser and can’t do for themselves”. Reverse discrimination is much worse than racism because it parades around as being helpful as it points out what we are trying to ignore (difference). It de-motivates and creates enemies where none may have been. Racism is ignorance and hate, but its honest and the damage/danger is instantly recognized.
Women were discriminated against every day and still are, but they are on the verge of out successing the men in many areas. I believe women decided they were equal and refused to accept nothing less, nor did they accept preferential treatment. Many still think women should be barefoot and pregnant or are not as smart as a man but as a woman, I take no offense. I simply feel sorry for their ignorance.

Why did the chicken cross the road?
DR. PHIL:
The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'THIS' side of the road before it goes after the problem on the 'OTHER SIDE' of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his 'CURRENT' problems before adding 'NEW' problems.
OPRAH:
Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.
GEORGE W. BUSH:
We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.
COLIN POWELL:
Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road...
ANDERSON COOPER - CNN:
We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.
JOHN KERRY:
Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.
NANCY GRACE:
That chicken crossed the road because he's GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.
PAT BUCHANAN:
To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.
MARTHA STEWART:
No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.
DR SEUSS:
Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.
ERNEST HEMINGWAY:
To die in the rain. Alone.
JERRY FALWELL:
Because the chicken was gay! Can't you people see the plain truth? That's why they call it the 'other side.' Yes, my friends, that chicken is gay. And if you eat that chicken, you will become gay too. I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this abomination that the liberal media white washes with seemingly harmless phrases like 'the other side.' That chicken should not be crossing the road. It's as plain and as simple as that.
GRANDPA:
In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.
BARBARA WALTERS:
Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road.
ARISTOTLE:
It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.
JOHN LENNON:
Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.
BILL GATES:
I have just released eChicken2007, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your check book. Internet Explorer is an integral part of eChicken. This new platform is much more stable and will never cras...#@&^% ........ reboot.
ALBERT EINSTEIN:
Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?
BILL CLINTON:
I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken?
AL GORE:
I invented the chicken!
COLONEL SANDERS:
Did I miss one?
DICK CHENEY:
Where's my gun?
AL SHARPTON:
Why are all the chickens white? We need some black chickens.

In May, my son was rear ended by a Judge on his way home from work. We suspect that the Judge was drinking and switched seats with his wife, who is also a Judge. The Judges were abusive and extremely upset at the scene. My son was upset too, but only after he realized the police were not going to handle the situation in the usual manner. My son was arrested for road rage and given several tickets based solely on the Judges story of what happened. I requested and received the 911 recording from the accident. On that recording you can hear the Judge threatening my son and calling him names. The woman Judge is screaming hysterically in the background. My son is recorded calling the Judge sir and asking him to back away from him. He also made several statements that he was afraid of the Judge and had already been pushed by him. His statements of what happen seconds after impact are the same as what he told the police when they arrived. No one was given a sobriety test even though it was a holiday known for alcohol use. I asked for a copy of the video from the responding officers (it should show the Judge being restrained by the officer after he admitted pushing my son and adding more threats). There is no video I am told - those cars were not equipped. My insurance co is refusing to pay for the damage to the Judges car. They have found the accident to be 100% the fault of the Judge and are proceeding with an action to get the money they put out to fix my son's car. In addition, the Judges claim the accident was intentional on my son’s part; however, the car they hit is a car that my son shows. It has a full body kit (completed and painted 4 days prior to the accident), 2 TV's in the trunk, along with some other equipment I am not too familiar with - subwoofer and capacitor, I think.
