Vote out every incumbent from local govt. to Congress.  Maybe if we send a message to our government that they actually have to WORK to keep their jobs the newly elected will put forth some REAL effort and make real progress.

How do you send a message when one politician is as crooked as the next? If they would both follow through with their campaign promises, then maybe things would change. I heard McCain say , "If I am elected I will find Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice." LOL

Unfortunately most incumbents get re-elected. Part of this is fear of change, and part of it is the belief that the person that represents us is a pretty good person, one of us, just look at all the "good" they have done for us.

Often times the person running against an incumbent is not all that qualified, and may not have your interests or views.

They are all corrupt, all selfish, and only care about one thing, their bank account and status! I agree, we should vote them out, but for what...more of the same by different people??!!

I personally believe that all politicians should have term maximums just like the President, 2 terms.

Some of these guys have been in there 25-30 years or more

GOD Bless,
jerry

Voting is like a cake,
you keep using the some ingredients you get the same cake.

You heep voting for the same people you get the same cake.

As a "statesman" myself (there is a difference between statesman and politician), let me offer a few observations from the other side of the podium.

First off, if you tell people the truth, straight out, they'd never vote for you. If you tell them what they NEED to hear, not what they WANT to hear, they'd never vote for you.

If you told everyone where you really stood on every issue, almost nobody would vote for you. If you didn't accept money from every special interest group, nobody would vote for you (because they wouldn't know who you are).

Basically what I'm saying is the American people are getting what they deserve.

They won't consider a 3rd party due to wasted vote syndrome. They consistently vote for the least stinky pile for the same reason.

Most won't get involved at any level, and don't care about the tedious and boring issues in their own back yard, which often are more important than the sexy ones in washington.

And finally, the problem is always the other guy's congressman. After all, mine had this really awesome bridge built near my house. But that other guy is spending my money like a drunken sailor.

We need to draw names out of a pool for office, just like we do when we pick jurors.

Term limits are not always the answer. There have been some really good Senators, Congressmen, Governors, etc., who would have been eliminated from holding a third term if there were term limits. In others cases a single term would have been more than enough. Then there are the ones who get elected to an important office, and then turn around and start running for another office before they have even started the job they were elected to. Instead of instituting more term limits, lets institute laws concerning abandonment of position. In other words, if you start running for a different office before you have served the majority of your first term, then it will be considered that you have abandoned your office and you will be replaced.

jpbikerfreak, I think quite a few of us here would like to become statespeople, but, like politicians, statespeople need a boatload of money just to have a chance at getting into office. Since I am 25 today, I would love to have the chance to run as a state representative here in Kansas, but I don't have money like all the rest of those guys do.

If I ever do get the chance to run as a state representative, one of the big things I know need to be changed is improving the state's infrastructure and education systems...And I know that in order to do that, taxes have to be raised or implemented, but I also know there are quite a few people who would gladly pay the higher taxes if they know that those taxes will only go for improving schools and the state's infrastructure. The big issue any person who wants to improve those two things is going to face is what taxes can be raised that won't upset the people paying the taxes, and I can think of only two things: Up the sales tax and add an excise tax to dutiful goods. For example, on any item that costs more than $1,000, there will be an excise tax of 10% and the sales tax on items less than $1,000 will go up from its current 7.65% to 8%. The total amount of the purchase does not matter. The taxes apply to individual items, not to the total purchase. For example, if you buy 20 items at $50 each, you only pay the 8% sales tax, but if you buy one item at $1,000, you pay the 10% excise tax.

The money from those taxes will then need to be locked into an account that is used only for improving schools and the state's infrastructure.

mnaines,

The sad part about money that the schools are to get normally get put into a general fund and spent on something else,

When Missouri voted in the lottery and Gaming, we were told that no Missouri school would ever again have to beg for money, but by the 2nd year the boats were here, our local Crook politicians put those proceeds from the Gaming industries into a general fund so that they could give them selfs raises and use the cash hoever they wished, to bad we cant go back and vote on the riverboat thing all over again

Calco, and Americans are the ones who voted for these dimwits...Why do we vote these idiots into office when we know they will screw us over? I say we boycott the elections and not vote at all until politicians do what the people say and not what Big Money says.

I know how to add $400 Billion to our Economy!

If Americans were to stay on top of their Government by calling, writing, protesting in Large Numbers about Issues, our System would be pressured into a more responsible way of Governing. Instead, the Few that show their concern, are passed off and forgotten about in our scandalous system.

People seem to think these days that the politicians will "take care of things"...Americans don't want to because they are lazier than the politicians.

Millions of Americans are Lazy and waiting for handouts. It's a sad epidemic with no cure in sight. Our Politicians just don't seriously care about whats right. They tell everyone what people want to hear and don't practice what they claim they will. Sad,sad, sad! Lies and False Bias Propaganda all of our lives. Something has got to change!!
