I know someone who got his 5th DUI.  He was facing a felony charge as a chronic offender.  His lawyer couldn't get it down to a misdemeanor, so he was going to go to trial.  Then a rich family member stepped in and got him a high-priced lawyer.  Result, a misdemeanor charge, 2 months house arrest and 1 year license suspension.  He went home and celebrated by getting drunk.  Now he's got the bracelet on and has a thingy he has to blow in, but he's still driving and I know he'll be drinking as soon as the testing stops.  There's no lesson here, except that if you have lots of money you can break the law (repeatedly)  and all they'll do is send you to your room.  You're grounded, Mister!

I was at a party once and this guy said he wasnt drinking because he had to blow into something for his car to start.. then he said "yeah, it sucks"

I said no, what sucks is that you have had so many dui's the people of this state have to provide a device for you to blow into so you dont get drunk and go kill someone with your car.

The party suddenly went dead silent.. It was like EF Hutton talked or something...

Realize that alot of our legal system was created by lawyers. As long as it puts money in their pocket, they don't care that criminals get off.

Just proves that $$$ talks. I just hope and pray that if they end up killing themselves behind the wheel they don't take an innocent person(s) with them. It happens all too often. I don't see how these lawyers can sleep at night. Oh yes I can . . . I forgot . . . they don't sleep because they are busy counting the money they've made and pondering how to spend it.

Drunk driving deaths, are socially acceptable deaths, based on the punishments handed out.

If it were unacceptable, they would serve time commensurate with murder. Either victim is just as dead.

Little has changed over the past 25 years.

More and more tragic stories to come.

Another person I know (family member)has had 6 or so DUI's now and is facing jail time. Hope he gets it cause he will NEVER quit.

Taking away their license does no good. They will drive anyway! Total disregard for the laws. Their motto is the law is made for everyone else but them. They should be banned from ever owning a vehicle and if anyone supplies them with their vehicle they should be held equally as responsible for any damage/deaths they cause. There has to be some way to stop these people.
