I wonder why the govt. doesn't give more incentive to Corporate America's big shots to allow more telecommuting. I can log on to the system from home, all meetings are teleconferences, I have no contact with the public, I basically leave my cube for coffee and...you know. At home I am using my utilities, my phone, my PC. Same for my husband. We would save $120 a week in auto maintenance AND we wouldn't be driving to and fro emitting greenhouse gasses (plus I wouldn't have to get out of my bathrobe until noon!) There are approx. 250 other's in our office that could do likewise. Certainly there are plenty of others at other companies who can telecommute as well. That's taking a lot of cars off the road and reducing emissions and gasoline consumption, every little bit helps. Our CEO's big thing about telecommuting is he's afraid we won't really work. Guess he's not too bright. You give people assignments and due dates, if they don't get the work done, sack 'em. No, we must be in the office because that means we are really working (yeah, right, I see a lot of Freecell and surfing going on). Greedy slavedriver's do not care about going green, they care about how many stock options they can get and their 6 figure salaries, ergo the Govt. should give Corporations a tax break if they support telecommuting. Money talks...
