The far left, which more and more is the predominate main stream of the liberal Democrat party, does not like free speech.  If you have any doubt, Democrat Sen. Jeff Bingaman has told us so.   He wants government to force a "balance" to talk radio.  Liberals do not want to be forced to defend their leftist views but simply shut down their opposition.  What other reason is there for wanting the Government to restrict freedom of speech.

"If enacted, the Fairness Doctrine (which is anything but) would create logistical nightmares for radio programmers, leading quickly to shuttered stations," according to  Brian Maloney. "The need to 'balance' every viewpoint presented would also destroy the entertainment value of talk radio."  This means for every Conservative speaker, the radio programmer would be forced, by law, to allow a left speaker on the radio.  Whether boring or ranting, the station would be "forced" to subject their audience to what they are not interested in hearing.  They would be forced by law, to run off their own audience.

The Fairness Doctrine, which by definition,  is not "fair", would not effect what we hear on CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, or CNN or AlJazeera.  It would not effect movies, TV sitcoms/drama or cable programming.   But only to  radio where Conservative talk is predominate.  Conservative radio, unlike the failing, liberal Air America, has a huge audience, because it fills a vacuum left by the liberal media.  The Fairness Doctrine is anti everything American stands for.  It is just what the Democrats will enact with an Obama win.  Speaker Pelosi has already said as much.

This is what they do in communist countries, Sen.
Bingaman!

SURE! GOT IT!

Help the 'Dirtycrats' restrict freedom of speech ..... as they
devise other plans to destroy all the United States Bill of Rights
to eventually eradicate the U.S. Constitution in total.

Gee! What's Un-American about that?

God Help Us!

If we have have the Evil Threesome in charge (Pelosi, Reid, Obama), they might well be unchecked to push their Marxist agenda. They will try to destroy what they can't control. Pelosi, Kerry and some others have already said they will push it through. That would leave the Supreme Court to overturn it but would the Dems wait til Obama replaced some Judges with libs and do it again? You bet.

Radio has been under the watchful eye of the Christian Coalition since Bush took office. We lost two great DJ's right here in Zona because of their Religious influence over the FCC. I guess what's good for one side just isn't good enough for the other.

The Fairness Doctrine cannot be reinstated !!I guess if you don't have an audience you have to present the other side anyway, ridiculous.

"I guess what's good for one side just isn't good enough for the other."

The left has already had a hand in censorship, they've attacked Christian broadcasters and leaned so heavily on the FCC that licenses have been revoked. So while the little games on each side are receiving little attention, Nancy is gearing up to put restrictions on one group of people on a grand scale. Hardly a comparison to two DJ's.

I'm glad to see that they are putting the clamps on Christian broadcasters. They are an evil entity and need to be stopped.

Who is to sit in judgment of censoring what is broadcast? If people don't like what they are hearing they are free to tune to another station. People don't run around trying to stop country music from playing on the airwaves because they prefer the blues. Just because you don't agree with what you are hearing doesn't mean everybody should go without the ability to tune into their preferred programs. Face it, the libs try to use fear to sway public opinion, the latest bailout is a classic example. But if the libs themselves weren't scared they wouldn't be pushing for censorship. How better to get everyone on the exact same page, make them all see and hear the exact same things, tell them what they should be feeling and thinking. CNN has it down to a fine art. They have the news and newspapers under control, now they're going after radio. Sad

Calla, I agree 100%. The Control Doctrine is a complete sham. If congressional clowns really want fair, there would be interruptions on television every 30 minutes to broadcast dissenting points of view.

Mocking Christians is a way to deflect the issue and proof of not having a clue what's at stake. Why should a militant liberal care whether the Fairness Doctrine gets through or not? They complain about a corrupt government, but want to place every necessary function under its control.

AlJazeeras' reports on what's happening in the U.S. are probably more factual and accurate than any of the media propaganda machine BS we hear in this country.

Music is not the same as receiting false pretences to be true. The masses fled Europe because of that, and we have deviated from that principle

THis is America.

Excuse my mild comparison using music. The point is the Fairness Doctrine is a total censorship of an opposing party. Just because the libs do not like or agree with what is said on talk radio does not mean false pretenses are being recited. The Fairness Doctrine is yet another form of mind control.

Which principal are you speaking of exactly that we deviated from? I'm taking it to mean the lies you think the Fairness Doctrine will help balance. Do you have any idea just how many different media outlets did not get the memo? Right now almost every media venue will either ignore something damaging to their agenda or they will twist the living daylights out of information to make it work for them. The Fairness Doctrine will only try to stop the truth.

Only one side is presenting their views on the radio? The fairness doctrine is supposed to present the OTHER side? Who says there are only 2 sides? I'm sure the Anarchists and others will appreciate the chance to counter all those lies and present their "sides". Every ideology needs to have the chance to present their side? I think 2 hours a week for each one would fill all the programming slots. After all, let's be fair.

Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry (as well as this fool) and others have SAID publicly, they want to bring it back. If you don't believe that, then you're calling them all liars. LOL

I don't know if it would stand up under Constitutional muster now, but that doesn't mean these radial liberal Socialist would not try. The left tactic is always to shut down their opponent, just like Hitler did; just like Castro, etc.

CallaLilly,
Good post. The 'fairness doctrine' is even worse than most people realize. I have written extensively on the subject on my national blog. The liberal message is more pervasive and has more outlets than anyone realizes. Please take a look.

Let's face it. The Democrats HATE America. B. Hussein Obama, Nancy Pelosi, & Harry Reid are the Hitlers of our day. They must not be given control of our country. Get out and vote for McCain (this really pains me to say this as I'm no big fan of McCain), but no one can question his patriotism.

Great post, CallaLilly.

These same people that support the "Fairness" doctrine don't seem to have the wisdom to change the channel. They don't seem to mind that our universities are filled with communists teaching and influencing our children or that we give scum like Chavez and Ahmadinejad a voice.

Of course, Chavez is currently practicing the fairness doctrine in Venezuela, by having the state take over any media platform that he feels disagrees with him. Sound familiar?

Any doubts about where Obama and his crew are leading us? Not in my mind.
