This is why we don't go anywhere on New Year's Eve UNLESS we can spend the night...  We never celebrate out of the house if we have to drive back the same night.  Too risky to come across intoxicated drivers not paying attention and I have two precious children I have to take care of.

Three Dead in New Year's Day Wreck

KANSAS CITY, MO  --  A Kansas City, Missouri Police Sergeant says it was one of the worst wrecks he's ever seen. Three people died New Year's Day when a car rear-ended them at Vivion and Antioch just after midnight. Police said a car was sitting at a stop light when another car rear-ended it. The car that was hit caught fire. Two people inside, a man and woman, died at the scene. The driver of the second car was taken to the hospital where he later died. Police said speed was definitely a factor.

Yes, I agree Basehorlady. I was just in
this intersection yesterday, and go that way
often, and there is no excuse for this
"accident." Not too much traffic, especially
that time of the morning (right after the New
Year).

How much you wanna bet the guy in the other car never even tried to hit the brakes? Probably some drunk idiot. Oh, well. Doesn't matter. Another idiot driver out of the gene pool is always a good thing.

And I thought you were one of the two stopped at the light, further reducing the gene pool.

Guess not.

Not one of us are promised tomorrow. The two victims who were back ended probably never imagined they were going to die last night and be today's top local news story.

I know that if I were out on New Year's Eve and driving home, I know the risks are much greater of getting in an accident... That's why I stay home. If something happens at home, like a natural gas explosion, and I die in that, so be it, but I'm going to do everything I can in my power to try to protect myself as much as humanly possible - and that means staying out of the way of obvious drunks.

Being out in a car driving home on New Year's Eve is the same as playing Russian Roulette.

Yes, it is very sad... Makes me sad anytime I hear of someone losing a life, whether it be car accident, or fire, or other tragedy. Unless it is a thug that was in the process of committing a crime!

Have they concluded that alcohol was involved? It undoubtedly was from the way the wreck happened. This is why they should make it manditory for someone to serve jail time for a second DUI.
I had a DUI about 20 years ago and was so humiliated, it cured me from ever drinking and driving. Plus it was very expensive. I admitted in court that I was old enough to know better. Alot of people make these stupid mistakes. I know of people who have had 7 or 8 DUI's and have never spent a single day in jail. I don't get it...but money talks.

I agree herron, there are quite a few people out there that have repeated offenses and are still driving. No, they haven't concluded alcohol was involved yet, but with the accident being on New Year's Eve, around midnight, the car going as fast as it was, especially approaching an intersection, something tells me alocohol is very likely to have been a part of it. What a way for their families to start a new year. It is really heart breaking.

"especially approaching an intersection"....Hummm....Basehor is there something I'm not aware of....so ...you advise avoiding intersection's all together or just on New Years eve....??

No, but the guy was definitely at a high rate of speed. A well taught driver proceeds towards an intersection with caution, knowing that the light can change and they would need to slow down. I don't know of anybody that would fly through an intersection in their right mind...

The police did not see this guy speeding? To bad if they did then that couple would still be here. It would be interesting to see where he had partied prior to this accident.

Well, unfortunately, the cops can't be everywhere... Sure wish they could. I hope the whole story comes out. I wondering if he was leaving one party, in a hurry to get to another?

Like Satira said, "Not one of us are promised tomorrow" that is why we need to be ready when we meet Jesus, you never know when that time will come.

Traffic wrecks are "socially acceptable" deaths.

They have been for quite some time. The penalties are low. DUI penalties are minimal, many drivers have multiple offenses.

Those that have their license revoked, drive anyway, and no agency is ensuring that they do not drive....so they do. Much like all those folks with warrants, no one is looking for them, so when they do get stopped, the entire car bails out and runs in 4 different directions.

The city can barely solve 50% of the homicides.

Priorities.

I'm ready to go at any time!

One neighbor had a DUI a few years ago. He had his license suspended for one year. Luckily, he had people take him places. It's a good thing for him because if I EVER saw him driving, I was going to call the cops immediately...

You bet, saving the rest of the hood! Nobody in the neighborhood likes the guy anyway. He's his own biggest and only fan.
