Illinois deputy arrested on drug charges in Texas The Associated Press

GROOM, Texas -- A longtime sheriff's deputy from Illinois and his traveling companion have been arrested on drug possession charges in Texas.

Forty-seven-year-old Cook County Deputy Darryl Jenkins and 31-year-old Dorothy Edwards were arrested Sunday when they were returning to Chicago from Los Angeles. Both are from Calumet City, Illinois.

Texas authorities say they found 138 pounds of marijuana and 4,000 grams of cocaine in the couple's vehicle during a traffic stop. The drugs have a street value of about $368,000 and were found inside luggage.

Both remain jailed on Tuesday on $60,000 bail each. Neither has an attorney.

Cook County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Patterson says Jenkins has been placed on paid suspension.

Jenkins was a Chicago courthouse deputy for 22 years.

What do the bloggers think of this?  And, of course, it's Cook County once again.

What a big surprise, more cops found doing something illegal.

They all break the law one way or another, even if it's fixing a ticket for relative or friend, lying on reports, beating the arrest while hand in cuffed, etc..

They should not get paid unless they use their vacation time.

I agree to fellow bloggers please read the story - it really happened so feel free to comment on it.

I don't want to hear from negative people that have negative lives. You know who you are so please keep it positive or do not comment.

Yes, person was in law enforcement very long and I am wondering if greed played the real factor.

I am not seeking negative attention on this cop that had nearly $370,000 in marijuana and cocaine...they might have something to do with the negative publicity.

The fact is they will be dealt with by the proper people. And people who do nothing more than read an article should not be soliciting comments. It's obvious you are seeking neg comments because the article makes them very guilty.

And why do comments have to be positive? And it looks like positive means the way YOU see it.
I'm sick of people trying to run down a whole group of fine people with such stupidity.
Those two obviously belong in jail...but you have only opened the door to every fox2 blogger who has an axe to grind over a personal police experience. And they will accuse the police of all kinds of things, true or untrue, because YOU have provided them with a stage!
Shame Shame!

News flash....Blogs don't have to be positive.

Like so many other bloggers on here you will most likely delete me, but some will read it before you get a chance and you make yourself look like an BLEEP!

Isn't it ironic that people hired to follow the laws break them? And to feed to someone's cries - ONLY a few do this - of course.

I am even more surprised that it was two officers and they had so much illegal drugs! Where in the heck did they obtain these drugs?

You can find miscreants in any occupation and law enforcement is no different. If found guilty of charges (and some people seem to forget that they're innocent until proven guilty) then they should receive maximum sentence.

As for the paid leave....... that's something that the people in Cook County are going to have to explain to the taxpayers.

I can't wait to see the verdict on this one. That is a crapload of drugs for a cop to have on them. I understnad personal use for a human but that many drugs means...sales and distribution.

Here's my question on these huge drug charges - were these two officer the D.A.R.E. officers?

Yeah, I know it's happening everywhere but the irony is they are hired to support the laws.

I believe a sheriff in Franklin County Indiana was busted for DUI a few days ago.

You do the crime they'll print it every time.

LOL - DARE officers - love it. After reading the news clip I don't think they were DARE officers. Yep, read that too about the sheriff, a DUI is a bit different - he should just pay the fine and do the probation or whatever they have to do.

DARE officers......to make a comparison to private industry, they're like the United Fund Coordinators that big companies appoint. You take the least capable manager and make him the United Fund Coordinator. That way they're not making bad decisions in their regular jobs and not missed.

It seems they are getting away pretty cheaply with only $60,000 as bail. Being that they had drugs totaling $368,000 you figure they have some cash stashed - wonder why they are still behind bars?

Does anyone know the outcome of events for these 2 fine officers?

I was just wondering because I have not found any new media releases.

I am always trying to find the correct answer. Even though I am clueless nearly all the time I am still not the dumbest on this planet.
